Purpose of Job

The Regional Coordinator – Technical Programs serves as a senior technical authority, overseeing the coordination and leadership of Africa CDC’s foundational technical programs and initiatives within the Regional Coordinating Centre. The role delivers advanced technical expertise, facilitates the synchronized execution of Africa CDC strategies across Member States, and guarantees the cohesive integration of surveillance, laboratory systems, preparedness and response efforts, and workforce development initiatives at the regional level.

The incumbent will also facilitate the integration of the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda (AHS) pillars—including digital health, Public Financial Management, and Supply Chain/African Pooled Procurement Mechanism (PPM)—within Member States across the Regional Coordination Centre (RCC).

The incumbent reports directly to the RCC Leadership and collaborates closely with technical divisions at the Africa CDC Headquarters.

Oversee a comprehensive range of duties that include managing daily operations, coordinating team activities, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Implement and monitor policies and procedures to maintain compliance and operational efficiency. Analyze performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and drive strategic decision-making. Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. The Regional Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and facilitating regional operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and standards. Conduct comprehensive technical evaluations, including situation analyses, risk assessments, and gap analyses, to shape regional priorities and develop compelling investment cases.

Candidates must possess a relevant academic qualification and substantial professional experience in the field. A degree in a pertinent discipline is required, along with at least five years of hands-on experience in a comparable role. Prior involvement in similar projects or initiatives is highly advantageous, demonstrating a proven track record of success.

A Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases, Laboratory Sciences, Health Security, Pharmacy, or a related discipline is required, along with a minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in public health practice—specifically in infectious disease epidemiology, monitoring, and surveillance. Of this experience, at least 6 years must be in an expert capacity, and a minimum of 3 years should include supervisory responsibilities.

A master’s or doctoral degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases, Laboratory Sciences, Health Security, Pharmacy, Medicine, or a closely related discipline is required, along with a minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in public health, with a strong focus on infectious disease epidemiology, monitoring, and surveillance. Additionally, at least six of those years must be in an expert-level capacity, and three must involve leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
