Basic Function:
This role involves managing the treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM), both with and without complications, and delivering nutrition rehabilitation for admitted SAM cases while preventing further deterioration through the administration of therapeutic feeds and essential medicines. The incumbent will also provide health and nutrition counseling and lead the capacity-building efforts for Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CAM) assistants.
Perform a diverse range of duties and fulfill key responsibilities, which include overseeing daily operations to ensure seamless workflow, managing project timelines and deliverables with precision, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive collective success. Additionally, monitor performance metrics to identify areas for improvement, prepare comprehensive reports for stakeholders, and maintain compliance with organizational policies and industry regulations. The role involves coordinating resources efficiently, resolving operational challenges promptly, and fostering an environment that promotes productivity and innovation.
Lead community outreach initiatives and conduct active case finding for malnutrition in children under five through mid-upper arm circumference screenings. Deliver Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) services within target communities and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, including defaulter tracing, follow-up visits, and health education sessions at OTP sites. Monitor for complications, non-responders, and ensure prompt two-way referrals to stabilization centers (SC) based on established protocols.
Develop a Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CAM) work plan and analyze malnutrition trends using admission data. Conduct mortality audits at OTP sites and assist the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) unit during assessments, focus group discussions, and timely report preparation. Maintain accurate service documentation while tracking OTP performance and indicators.
Ensure effective management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) cases with complications at the Stabilization Center (SC), including correct clinical diagnoses, comprehensive health assessments, and adherence to treatment protocols. Verify compliance with all admission, discharge, and transfer criteria between OTP and SC. Conduct daily ward rounds and establish a 24-hour call-duty roster for the CAMPS team.
Perform weekly and monthly inventory checks of nutrition supplies to verify stock levels and pre-position medical and food supplies in alignment with logistics plans. Oversee the preparation of therapeutic milk and food for SAM children and caregivers, respectively. Collaborate with SC assistants to ensure protocol adherence, appropriate referrals, and seamless transitions between OTP and SC.
Conduct thorough health checks, including vital sign monitoring, medication administration, and feeding protocols, while tracking patient progress. Report progress and challenges promptly, addressing technical inquiries related to program admissions and discharges. Update patient records, including critical care pathway (CCP) cards and OTP follow-up forms, to ensure completeness, accuracy, and continuity of care.
Deliver targeted health education messages to beneficiaries in accordance with protocols and guidelines. Compile statistical data on admissions, defaults, cures, absences, and deaths, and draft activity reports. Assist with Standardized Monitoring and Assessment of Relief and Transition (SMART), Semi-Quantitative Evaluation of Access and Coverage (SQUEAK), and other nutrition surveys at the Local Government Area (LGA) level. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Assists with supplementary duties as assigned, including but not limited to project coordination, documentation management, and cross-functional collaboration to support team objectives. May involve participation in strategic planning sessions, performance tracking, or process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency. Responsibilities can extend to organizing meetings, preparing reports, or providing administrative assistance to senior staff. Flexibility in adapting to evolving priorities and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment are essential. Demonstrates strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Compliance with company policies, confidentiality protocols, and ethical standards is mandatory.

Professional experience within a clinical environment is considered advantageous.

Seeking candidates who hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, computer science, or business administration, along with a minimum of three years of professional experience in a comparable role.
