Conduct thorough inspections to verify that all shipboard equipment, including working gears, hatches, cranes, and discharge mechanisms, operates effectively and efficiently before and during cargo handling procedures.
Coordinate and supervise stevedoring teams and dockworkers to ensure their timely arrival and readiness to begin cargo discharge operations immediately upon vessel berthing.
Monitor cargo discharge operations daily to ensure optimal efficiency at the berth or jetty, delivering precise, real-time updates on onboard activities to the Head of Shipping.
Collaborate effectively with terminal operations teams at both GDNL and Leak facilities while fostering strong working relationships with internal SBS logistics departments to enhance the efficiency of cargo evacuation processes.
Prepare and circulate meticulously verified daily Vessel Situation Reports (Streps), providing a comprehensive overview of shift performance metrics, tonnage volumes handled, and key operational achievements.
Immediately drafting and issuing formal Letters of Protest (LOP) on behalf of the company as operational challenges emerge—such as gear malfunctions, terminal delays, or adverse weather conditions—serves to mitigate the risk of unjustified demurrage claims.
Enforce corporate policies and standard shipping practices while ensuring all onboard activities are conducted safely and in full compliance with maritime regulations.
A strong proficiency in relevant technical skills and professional certifications is essential. Candidates must demonstrate a solid understanding of industry standards and best practices. Familiarity with specific tools, methodologies, or frameworks is required. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are necessary to address complex challenges. A minimum of an HND in fields such as Maritime Transport & Business Studies, Shipping/Ports Operations & Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline is required.
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience is required for consideration, demonstrating foundational knowledge and expertise. Applicants must possess at least three years of hands-on experience in a similar role, ensuring they have the practical skills needed to excel. Strong analytical abilities and meticulous attention to detail are essential to navigate complex challenges effectively.
