The Lead, Merchant KYC Support oversees the operational and strategic implementation of Know Your Customer (KYC) processes throughout the organization. This role involves directing a team of KYC Support Officers, supervising merchant onboarding procedures, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, and maintaining the accuracy of customer due diligence measures.

The position demands a comprehensive grasp of Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations, risk evaluation methodologies, and regulatory compliance frameworks, coupled with the capacity to synchronize interdepartmental initiatives to uphold a robust risk management stance and mitigate exposure to financial malfeasance.

Offer strategic direction, mentorship, and day-to-day supervision to the KYC Support team, guaranteeing the prompt and precise fulfillment of onboarding and periodic review assignments.

Review high-risk client files and risk assessments, and elevate intricate cases along with recommendations to senior management for final authorization.

Responsible for refining and maintaining due diligence workflows, validating documentation processes, and establishing risk classification standards to ensure ongoing improvement and operational excellence.

Facilitate the prompt completion of regular, trigger-activated, and event-stimulated client assessments while adhering to regulatory requirements.

Verify the precision of data and maintain meticulous records of all Know Your Customer (KYC) documentation and audit trails.

Serve as the primary escalation contact for internal stakeholders encountering KYC documentation or onboarding obstacles.

Work collaboratively with Compliance, Risk, Data & Document Management, and Customer Success teams to ensure KYC support functions are fully integrated with overarching risk frameworks.

Monitor evolving regulatory developments and KYC requirement modifications, then propose adjustments to internal protocols as needed.

Provide assistance in creating and implementing KYC-focused training programs for both the team and key cross-functional partners.

Compile periodic performance and risk exposure reports to facilitate informed decision-making by management.

Seeking candidates who possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, along with a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a comparable role. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, along with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills are required to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. A bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required.

A minimum of four to six years of relevant professional experience in areas such as Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, client onboarding protocols, compliance frameworks, or risk management strategies is required.

Seasoned professionals with a proven track record in overseeing and guiding teams within financial services or fintech organizations are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated leadership capabilities in a team management or mentorship capacity within these sectors are highly desirable.

Possesses a comprehensive grasp of business account onboarding processes along with the necessary documentation requirements for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and corporate entities.

Experience with relevant regulatory frameworks, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) protocols, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Know Your Customer (KYC) Guidelines, and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Recommendations, is strongly advantageous.
