Job Summary
MSHE Homes Limited is in search of a meticulous Cost Accountant to deliver precise cost analysis, maintain financial oversight, and produce contract cost reports for the organization’s real estate development and construction initiatives.
Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of duties to ensure operational excellence, including the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, management of cross-functional teams, and delivery of high-impact projects aligned with organizational objectives. Collaborate closely with senior leadership to align departmental goals with broader business strategies, fostering innovation and continuous improvement. Monitor performance metrics, analyze data trends, and provide actionable insights to drive decision-making and optimize processes. Serve as a key liaison between departments, stakeholders, and external partners to facilitate seamless communication and alignment. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and best practices while maintaining a strong focus on risk management and quality assurance. Lead talent development initiatives, mentoring team members to enhance skills, engagement, and productivity.
Oversee and systematically record all expenditures related to construction and real estate agreements, verifying that costs adhere to the established financial allocations.
Review and authenticate contractor and subcontractor invoices, progress claims, and payment certificates to ensure their alignment with contract schedules and completed work.
Develop and update contract cost schedules, cash flow projections, and cost-to-complete estimates for every ongoing development project.
Evaluate contract modifications, change orders, and claims while evaluating their financial implications and providing guidance to the Contract Management team.
Identify and promptly report any cost overruns, irregularities, or financial risks, along with suggested corrective measures to mitigate potential issues.
Compile monthly, quarterly, and project-end cost reports to compare budgeted and actual expenditures, analyze variances, and identify financial risks.
Perform comprehensive cost assessments encompassing materials, labor, plant operations, and overhead expenses to facilitate well-informed financial decision-making.
Reconcile contractual expenditures within the accounting framework and verify precise posting to designated project cost centers as well as appropriate general ledger accounts.
Provide assistance in developing and overseeing project budgets, performing continuous variance analysis, and proposing cost control strategies.
Support the assessment of contractors and suppliers by examining Bills of Quantities (BOQ’s), pricing schedules, and rate analyses to verify cost-effectiveness.
Ensure meticulous documentation and full compliance of all contract cost transactions with company financial policies, accounting standards, and applicable Nigerian regulatory requirements.
Provide precise cost data, documentation, and financial records to facilitate both internal and external audit processes as needed.
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required; advanced degrees preferred for senior roles.
* Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in software development, with expertise in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or C++.
* Proven track record of designing, developing, and deploying scalable software solutions in production environments.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues efficiently.
* Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and DevOps practices (CI/CD, containerization, Infrastructure as Code) is highly desirable.
* Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and collaborative software development practices.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
* Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams, demonstrating adaptability and a commitment to continuous learning.
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a closely related field is required.
Proficiency in professional certifications such as ICAN, ARCA, CIA, or NILS represents a valuable asset.
Minimum of three to five years of specialized experience in cost accounting or project cost control, ideally within the construction or real estate sectors.
Requires proven expertise in evaluating Bills of Quantities (BOQ’s), assessing contract valuations, and verifying contractor payment certifications.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP software is required, along with a solid understanding of Nigerian tax regulations, including Withholding Tax (WHT) and Value Added Tax (VAT), particularly as they apply to construction contracts.
