Job Summary:

We are currently in search of a seasoned and proactive Legal Officer who will deliver expert legal guidance, administer contracts, facilitate regulatory compliance, supervise litigation proceedings, and uphold corporate governance protocols. The preferred applicant will demonstrate a robust command of commercial law, exceptional contract drafting capabilities, and a proven track record in the financial services industry.

Oversee a range of critical duties encompassing project management, team leadership, and strategic planning to ensure organizational objectives are met efficiently and effectively. Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering professional growth and maintaining high performance standards. Develop and implement comprehensive policies, procedures, and workflows to enhance operational efficiency and compliance with industry regulations. Collaborate closely with senior management to align departmental goals with broader company strategies, driving continuous improvement and innovation. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and deliver regular progress reports to stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability. Identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction while maintaining quality and service excellence. Lead cross-functional initiatives to streamline communication and coordination across departments, promoting a cohesive and results-driven work environment.

Offer strategic legal guidance and assistance to business units across diverse legal and regulatory issues.

Skilled professionals will prepare, examine, and finalize various legal instruments such as loan agreements, deeds of assignment, demand letters, contracts, legal opinions, and memoranda, while also engaging in negotiations to ensure clarity, compliance, and mutual benefit for all parties involved.

Oversee contract administration duties while ensuring a meticulously organized database of legal documents and agreements is consistently maintained.

Coordinate and oversee litigation activities while managing communications with external counsel and ensuring the meticulous maintenance of litigation records.

Facilitate dispute resolution processes and aid in addressing customer complaints that involve legal considerations.

Maintain adherence to all relevant legal requirements, regulatory mandates, and professional industry benchmarks.

Support corporate governance initiatives by preparing and maintaining essential documentation, such as board materials, meeting minutes, and statutory records.

Perform comprehensive legal research and deliver insightful analyses to inform and enhance strategic business decisions.

Stay abreast of regulatory changes and provide strategic guidance to leadership regarding evolving legal and compliance obligations.

Deliver educational sessions and compliance-oriented workshops to enhance employees’ understanding of legal requirements and best practices.

You will participate in pertinent meetings and draft legal reports and documentation as needed.

Execute additional legal and administrative tasks as directed by management.

Requirements:

Holders of an LL. B from an accredited university are required.

Must hold a current Nigerian Bar practicing license and be eligible for call to the Nigerian Bar.

A minimum of six years of post-qualification legal experience, obtained either within a commercial law firm or a corporate legal department, is required.

Professional experience in financial services, fintech, lending, microfinance, or banking sectors is strongly preferred.

Proven expertise in commercial law, contract administration, litigation procedures, regulatory adherence, and corporate governance frameworks is essential.

A background in consumer lending or credit operations would be beneficial.

Highly proficient in legal drafting, negotiation, analytical reasoning, and professional communication.

Demonstrates meticulous attention to detail, maintains a high standard of professionalism, and exercises sound judgment in all tasks.
