A reputable Microfinance Bank headquartered in Elite State is now searching for an adept, meticulously organized, and credentialed professional to fill the dual position of Legal and Administrative Officer.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director/CEO, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the bank’s legal affairs, administering human resources, and managing general office operations. The ideal candidate must ensure full compliance with corporate governance standards, statutory legal regulations, and labor laws, while cultivating an efficient and effective workplace environment.
Oversee a comprehensive array of critical duties, including strategic planning, project execution, and cross-functional collaboration, to drive organizational success and operational excellence. Lead high-impact initiatives with precision and accountability, ensuring alignment with company goals while fostering innovation and efficiency. Responsible for mentoring teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and delivering measurable results in fast-paced environments. Legal Affairs and Corporate Governance: This role oversees the development, implementation, and monitoring of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. The position involves providing strategic guidance to senior management on corporate governance best practices, risk management, and ethical considerations. Responsibilities include managing legal documentation, advising on contractual matters, and addressing regulatory inquiries. The ideal candidate will have a background in law with a focus on corporate governance, strong analytical skills, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes.
Draft, prepare, and finalize legal documents, including service level agreements (SLAs), lease agreements, and loan security documentation, while overseeing their review and negotiation processes.
Deliver strategic legal guidance to management regarding regulatory adherence, operational issues, and credit recovery initiatives in a prompt and professional manner.
Collaborate with external legal representatives to manage litigation matters, debt recovery initiatives, and the administration of perfected security assets.
Maintain adherence to the Corporate Governance Guidelines issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and fulfill corporate filing obligations with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
Human Resource Management involves overseeing employee relations, recruitment, and talent development to align with organizational goals. This role requires expertise in workforce planning, performance management, and ensuring compliance with labor laws. Responsibilities include managing compensation and benefits, resolving workplace conflicts, and fostering a positive work environment. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential, along with proficiency in HR software and data-driven decision-making. The position demands a strategic mindset to attract, retain, and nurture top talent while promoting diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Manage the full employee journey, encompassing recruitment coordination, onboarding facilitation, performance review assistance, and offboarding procedures.
Ensure staff files and personnel records are meticulously maintained, kept strictly confidential, and consistently updated.
Oversee employee relations, address workplace grievances, and apply HR policies in strict adherence to the Nigerian Labour Act.
Oversee staff attendance records and leave schedules while organizing training and development programs.
Duties encompass general administrative tasks such as managing correspondence, maintaining records, coordinating schedules, and facilitating communication within the organization. Proficiency in office software, exceptional organizational skills, and meticulous attention to detail are essential. The role requires handling multiple priorities efficiently while ensuring accuracy in all administrative functions. Strong interpersonal abilities and the capacity to work independently are also necessary to support the smooth operation of the department.
Oversee the daily functions of the bank’s corporate headquarters, maintaining an environment that is clean, secure, and conducive to productivity.
Responsible for managing the acquisition of office supplies and ensuring efficient inventory control, as well as coordinating facility maintenance activities.
Oversee a team of support personnel, comprising security staff, drivers, and cleaning personnel.
Oversee vendor agreements and guarantee the prompt renewal of institutional insurance policies and operational licenses.
Qualifications & Requirements
A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree and admission to the Nigerian Bar (B. L) are essential prerequisites for this role. Candidates holding professional certifications in Human Resource Management—such as CPM or SHRM—or in Administration will be strongly favored.
Seeking a candidate with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in post-call roles, including at least 2 years specializing in legal advisory, corporate governance, or human resource administration, preferably within a financial institution or structured corporate setting.
Possesses a strong understanding of Nigerian banking laws, the regulatory frameworks set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) for microfinance banks, as well as corporate and labor regulations.
Exceptional proficiency in drafting and negotiation, coupled with robust organizational skills, high emotional intelligence, and an unwavering commitment to discretion and confidentiality.
Requires a strong command of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as expertise in specialized legal research tools.
