Job Summary

A distinguished Microfinance Bank located in Elite State is in search of a dynamic, meticulously organized, and suitably qualified individual to fill the combined position of Legal and Administrative Officer.

Reporting to the Managing Director/CEO, the chosen individual will be responsible for overseeing the bank’s legal affairs, directing human resource management, and supervising general office operations. The candidate will uphold stringent adherence to corporate governance, statutory legal requirements, and labor laws, while cultivating an effective and productive workplace environment.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Affairs & Corporate Governance:

Prepare, examine, and finalize legal documents, including service level agreements (SLAs), lease agreements, and loan security documentation, while engaging in negotiations to ensure favorable terms.

Deliver precise and prompt legal guidance to leadership on matters pertaining to regulatory adherence, operational procedures, and credit recovery initiatives.

Engage proactively with external legal counsel to address litigation matters, debt recovery proceedings, and matters related to perfected security assets.

Ensure adherence to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Corporate Governance Guidelines and compliance with corporate filing obligations to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

Human Resource Management encompasses the strategic oversight of an organization’s workforce, ensuring alignment with business objectives while fostering employee engagement and development. This role involves overseeing recruitment processes, managing employee relations, administering compensation and benefits, and implementing policies that comply with labor laws and organizational standards. Additionally, it requires analyzing workforce trends, addressing performance issues, and cultivating a positive workplace culture to enhance productivity and retention. Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of HR best practices are essential for success in this position.

Manage the full employee lifecycle, encompassing recruitment coordination, onboarding facilitation, performance evaluation assistance, and offboarding procedures.

Ensure that all staff files and personnel records are meticulously maintained, kept strictly confidential, and consistently updated to reflect the most current information.

Oversee employee relations, address workplace grievances, and apply HR policies in alignment with the Nigerian Labour Act to ensure full compliance.

Monitor staff attendance records and oversee leave schedules, ensuring accurate tracking and compliance with organizational policies. Additionally, coordinate and facilitate training and development programs to enhance employee skills and foster professional growth within the team.

Performs general administrative duties, including managing correspondence, maintaining records, coordinating meetings, and ensuring efficient office operations. Handles basic office tasks such as filing, data entry, and scheduling, while supporting staff with necessary resources. Demonstrates strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Requires proficiency with standard office software, effective communication, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Oversee the daily operations of the bank’s corporate headquarters, maintaining a clean, secure, and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities include managing procurement processes, overseeing inventory control for office supplies, and ensuring facility maintenance is performed efficiently.

Oversee a team of support personnel, which encompasses security staff, drivers, and cleaning personnel.

Oversee vendor agreements while guaranteeing the prompt renewal of institutional insurance policies and operational licenses.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of five years of proven experience in a comparable role are required. Candidates must possess exceptional analytical skills, proficiency in advanced data analysis tools, and the ability to interpret complex datasets. Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal, are essential for collaborating with cross-functional teams and conveying insights effectively. Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and compliance standards is a must. Experience with project management methodologies and leadership in driving data-driven initiatives is highly desirable. Proficiency in relevant software platforms and a commitment to continuous learning are also required.

A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree and admission to the Nigerian Bar (B. L) are essential qualifications for this role. Possession of professional certifications in Human Resource Management, such as CPM or SHRM, or in Administration would provide a significant competitive edge.

A minimum of three to five years of post-call experience is required, with a preference for candidates who possess at least two years of expertise in legal advisory, corporate governance, or human resource administration—ideally within a financial institution or structured corporate setting.

Proficiency in Nigerian banking legislation, including the regulatory frameworks of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) for microfinance institutions, as well as corporate governance and labor law compliance, is required.

Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills, combined with strong organizational abilities, define the ideal candidate, who must also demonstrate high emotional intelligence and an unwavering commitment to discretion and confidentiality.

Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) as well as specialized legal research tools is required.
