The Lead, Merchant KYC Support oversees the strategic and operational implementation of Know Your Customer (KYC) processes throughout the organization. This role involves directing a team of KYC Support Officers, supervising merchant onboarding procedures, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, and maintaining the accuracy of customer due diligence measures.

Manages and oversees the primary duties and functions essential to the role. Ensures all critical tasks are completed efficiently and in compliance with established standards and protocols. Offer strategic direction, mentorship, and hands-on supervision to the KYC Support team, guaranteeing prompt and precise execution of onboarding and periodic review responsibilities.

Conduct thorough evaluations of high-risk client files and associated risk assessments, then escalate intricate cases and recommendations to senior management for final endorsement.

Responsible for enhancing and managing due diligence workflows, validating documentation, and establishing risk classification standards on an ongoing basis.

Oversee the prompt completion of scheduled, trigger-based, and event-driven client reviews to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Guarantee the precision of data and meticulous maintenance of all Knows Your Customer (KYC) documentation, as well as the integrity of associated audit trails.

Serve as the primary contact point for internal stakeholders to address and resolve issues related to KYC documentation or onboarding obstacles.

Work in partnership with the Compliance, Risk, Data & Document Management, and Customer Success teams to integrate KYC support within overarching risk management frameworks.

Monitor regulatory developments and evolving KYC compliance mandates, analyzing their potential impact on organizational protocols and advising on necessary procedural modifications to ensure alignment with current standards.

Facilitate the creation and implementation of KYC-focused training initiatives for both the team and key cross-functional partners.

Prepare regular reports on performance metrics and risk exposure to support management in making informed decisions.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field is required for this position.

With a minimum of four to six years of demonstrated expertise in Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures, client onboarding processes, compliance frameworks, or risk management strategies, candidates are encouraged to apply.

Accomplished professionals with a proven ability to lead and develop teams within financial services or fintech organizations are encouraged to apply. Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in team management or mentorship, acquired in a dynamic financial or technology-driven setting.

A solid grasp of business account onboarding processes and the documentation requirements for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as corporate clients is essential.

Proficiency in relevant regulatory frameworks, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) standards, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines, and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations, is strongly advantageous.

Proficient in analytical reasoning, professional communication, and stakeholder engagement are essential.

A strong background in Know Your Customer (KYC) systems and associated tools is highly beneficial.
