Job Summary

The Hospitalist oversees the comprehensive care of inpatients from initial admission to final discharge, ensuring a seamless continuum of medical treatment. This position emphasizes the provision of superior, well-coordinated inpatient care, with a primary goal of enhancing patient recovery and optimizing the judicious allocation of hospital resources.

The Hospitalist collaborates seamlessly with cross-functional teams to oversee the treatment of both acute and chronic medical conditions in an inpatient healthcare environment.

This position demands a blend of clinical expertise, operational proficiency, and seamless collaboration with diverse healthcare teams to elevate patient safety, satisfaction, and care continuity.

Responsibilities

Deliver holistic medical treatment to patients requiring hospitalization, ensuring their comprehensive care throughout their admission.

Perform comprehensive patient evaluations during initial consultations, devise individualized treatment strategies, and oversee continuous care management throughout the treatment process.

Perform daily ward rounds and maintain precise documentation of clinical findings.

Assess patient responses to treatment protocols and modify therapeutic interventions accordingly to ensure optimal recovery outcomes.

Oversee the treatment of acute illnesses, manage flare-ups of chronic conditions, and provide medical care following surgical procedures.

Respond without delay to urgent situations involving inpatients and instances of clinical decline.

Promote the implementation of evidence-based clinical practices while strictly adhering to established protocols.

Responsibilities include managing and supervising all aspects of the admission processes, with a focus on handling clerical tasks and ensuring accurate documentation.

Conduct daily ward rounds and oversee the timely evaluation of all patients.

Oversee the discharge planning process to facilitate smooth and timely patient transitions from care, ensuring safety and continuity throughout the process.

Compose discharge summaries, prescriptions, and follow-up care plans with precision and clarity.

Engage collaboratively with specialists, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.

Collaborate with other departments by initiating and managing referrals and consultations as needed.

Facilitate seamless transitions of patient care across emergency, inpatient, and outpatient settings to maintain consistent and high-quality treatment.

Contribute to collaborative case evaluations and deliberations involving diverse professional perspectives.

Develop evidence-based protocols and guidelines, and provide training to medical officers and nurses on their implementation in patient care.

Comply strictly with established clinical protocols, adhere to relevant guidelines, and implement evidence-based practices throughout all procedures.

Engage actively in quality improvement projects and clinical audit processes.

Monitor key indicators related to quality improvement and patient safety, such as medication errors, readmission rates, and adverse events, to ensure adherence to healthcare standards.

Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention and control protocols to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.

Document clinical incidents and engage in root cause analysis (RCA) to identify underlying causes and implement corrective measures.

Ensure medical records are meticulously documented, comprehensive, and submitted in a timely manner.

Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills by engaging patients and families in clear, compassionate discussions about diagnosis, treatment options, and anticipated outcomes.

Ensure comprehensive and unambiguous handovers are conducted at the conclusion of each shift to facilitate seamless continuity of duties.

Facilitate compliance with accreditation standards, such as those outlined by the Joint Commission International Standards.

Maintain transparent and consistent communication with patients and their families about their diagnosis, treatment plans, and expected outcomes.

Interact with all individuals in a manner that reflects empathy, mutual respect, and professionalism consistently.

Facilitate seamless transitions for patients throughout the entirety of their care journey, from initial admission to final discharge.

Contribute to enhancing patient satisfaction (CSAT) and experience (NPS) metrics through targeted initiatives.

Oversee the performance and activities of medical officers to ensure adherence to established protocols and standards of care.

Engage actively in the clinical education and mentorship of junior doctors, fostering their professional development through hands-on training and guidance in a clinical setting.

Provide guidance and facilitate the professional development of clinical staff through training and mentorship initiatives.

Attend and actively engage in clinical meetings, case reviews, ecosystem grand rounds, and various departmental activities.

Commit to ongoing professional growth through continuous professional development (CPD) initiatives, ensuring awareness of cutting-edge medical practices and evolving clinical guidelines.

Uphold hospital policies and clinical governance frameworks to ensure adherence to established standards and regulatory requirements.

Provide support for bad management and enhance patient flow efficiency.

Share in on-call duty assignments and rotate through scheduled shifts to ensure continuous coverage.

Our ideal candidate must possess a minimum of five years of relevant experience in a similar role, along with a proven track record of delivering exceptional results. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, as is a deep understanding of current trends and best practices. Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve complex problems efficiently are required. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities are also necessary to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred, though equivalent professional experience may be considered.

Earn a medical degree, such as an MBBS or an equivalent qualification, from an institution accredited by the appropriate medical authority.

Completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYC) program is an essential requirement for this position.

Clinical experience of at least five to seven years is required.

Holds a current, unrestricted medical license in good standing.

Proficient in clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning with a keen ability to evaluate patient conditions accurately.

Proficient in advanced life support techniques is essential.

Proficient in utilizing computer systems and software is essential.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, with a demonstrated ability to engage effectively in both verbal and written interactions.
