This role is pivotal to fulfilling missionaries’ call to ‘Invite others to come unto Christ by assisting them in embracing the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.’ Serving as foundational support staff, teachers are individual contributors tasked with training missionaries across diverse settings and subject areas. Their responsibilities may encompass language proficiency, instruction in gospel doctrine and Preach My Gospel principles, and the development of essential missionary skills. Teachers provide training to both junior and senior missionaries prior to their entry into the Missionary Training Center (MTC), during their time at the MTC, and following their departure. They adhere to an approved curriculum and may be chosen to engage in pilot programs and special initiatives.
Responsibilities
You will report directly to the trainer or supervisor within the Training department.
Delivers guidance, support, and constructive feedback to missionaries across various instructional formats, including individualized coaching sessions, small-group discussions, large-scale training workshops, as well as overseeing Canvas engagement, including participation metrics and discussion board activity.
Plans and develops lesson plans in alignment with the approved curriculum, collaborating with a companion teacher (if applicable) to effectively address the missionary’s requirements.
Oversees the planning and financial management activities of missionaries, ensuring alignment with established objectives and resource allocation strategies.
Executes directives and provides guidance as instructed by the Teacher Trainer/Supervisor, the Manager of Training, and the Senior Manager of Training.
Attends weekly training sessions and engages in collaborative discussions with co-teachers to ensure alignment and shared understanding.
Provides support to local leadership in collaborating with Mission and Missionary Department leadership, as needed.
Documents the status and evolution of delegated assignments for senior management review.
Experienced professionals provide mentorship to missionaries, guiding them through preparatory phases and during both practice sessions and live instructional delivery.
Proficiency assessments for missionaries and teacher applicants in the target language may be required as part of your responsibilities.
The role may involve additional duties, including the responsibility of portraying a non-member who expresses interest in learning more about The Church of Jesus Christ through acting.
Depending on availability, additional duties may be assigned as a Training Area Assistant.
Other temporary duties may also be assigned at the MTC, such as providing support during Mission Leadership Seminars.
Qualifications
Required:
As someone who has completed full-time missionary service, you must have a demonstrated commitment to service and a strong sense of personal responsibility.
Proficiency in the designated second language is required for language instruction roles.
Accomplished coaching, facilitation, and training expertise with a proven ability to engage and develop teams effectively. Demonstrated skill in delivering impactful learning experiences and guiding individuals toward achieving their full potential. Strong capability in fostering collaborative environments and enhancing performance through tailored instructional methods.
A solid grasp of Preach My Gospel is essential to this role. Candidates must demonstrate familiarity with its principles and methodologies to effectively engage in proselytizing efforts. Proficiency in applying its teachings is required to support missionary work and outreach initiatives.
Proven ability to build strong interpersonal relationships, effectively prioritize tasks, maintain a high standard of professionalism, and demonstrate strong leadership capabilities.

A solid grasp of proven language-learning methodologies is necessary for roles focused on language instruction.

Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English and a second language are essential for language teaching roles, with the added capability for non-verbal communication specifically for ASL instructors.
The role may involve physical demands essential to its core functions, including prolonged periods of sitting or standing, as well as the operation of monitors and equipment.

With a proven track record in classroom instruction or one-on-one tutoring within an MTC environment, you bring valuable hands-on experience to this role. Whether through structured lesson planning, individualized support, or progress tracking, you have demonstrated the ability to enhance student comprehension and engagement in an MTC framework.
