The Health and Safety Officer (Transport) is tasked with guaranteeing that all transportation operations at Denote Cement Transport adhere to applicable health and safety regulations. This involves creating, executing, and enforcing specialized safety programs designed to address the unique requirements of transportation-related activities.

Responsibilities include managing daily operations to ensure efficiency and productivity, overseeing staff performance and development, and implementing strategies to meet organizational goals. This role entails coordinating with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, maintaining compliance with industry regulations, and addressing operational challenges proactively. The position also requires conducting regular performance evaluations, fostering a positive work environment, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for budget management, resource allocation, and reporting key metrics to senior leadership. Strong leadership, analytical skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting are essential for success in this role.

Formulate, document, and enforce health and safety policies and protocols specifically tailored to transportation operations.

Perform routine inspections and audits to verify adherence to all applicable local and federal safety regulations.

Deliver comprehensive training and mentorship to transportation personnel regarding safety protocols, emergency response protocols, and the proper use of equipment.

Evaluate risks associated with transportation operations and develop and execute effective mitigation strategies to ensure operational safety and efficiency.

Conduct thorough inquiries into accidents and incidents to identify underlying causes and propose appropriate corrective measures.

Oversee the upkeep of safety records and generate comprehensive reports detailing transportation safety performance metrics.

Collaborate with regional governing entities and compliance organizations to ensure adherence to transportation safety regulations.

Serve as an intermediary to address and resolve safety-related issues concerning the transportation fleet and its drivers.

Evaluate the performance of current safety initiatives and propose enhancements to bolster their efficacy.

Attend safety meetings to deliver comprehensive safety data and valuable insights to leadership.

Requirements

A Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or an equivalent discipline is required.

A qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, such as BOSH, JOSH, or an equivalent credential, is required.

A minimum of two years of relevant experience in a safety-focused position within the transportation or logistics industry is required.

A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related scientific or engineering field is required.

A recognized institution’s Professional Certificate or Diploma in fire, safety, health, or environmental management—such as BOSH, IGC, or NVQ Level 6—constitutes an additional qualification.

Familiarity with fleet safety management protocols and standards is essential for this role. Understanding best practices for maintaining vehicle safety, ensuring driver compliance, and mitigating risks associated with fleet operations is required. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and safety policies applicable to fleet management is also necessary.

Possesses comprehensive expertise in health and safety regulations specifically governing transportation operations.

Proficient in a range of technical and interpersonal competencies, with a strong emphasis on adaptability, problem-solving, and collaborative teamwork. Demonstrates exceptional organizational abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive approach to task management.
