As Head of Department, Arts & Humanities, you will serve as the academic authority overseeing all non-scientific content across YES, ensuring rigorous standards from script approval to the final stages of video review and publication.

You will be responsible for overseeing a variety of subjects, which encompass a broad range of topics and disciplines. Your purview will include managing and directing key areas of focus to ensure comprehensive coverage and adherence to established standards. Among the subjects requiring your attention are critical domains that demand expertise, diligence, and strategic oversight to maintain organizational objectives and performance excellence.

Proficient mastery of both English Language and Literature-in-English is essential, ensuring strong proficiency in linguistic structures, textual analysis, and interpretive skills. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to engage critically with diverse literary texts while facilitating meaningful discussions and fostering an appreciation for literary traditions. A deep understanding of grammatical principles, stylistic devices, and contextual frameworks is required to effectively instruct and assess student performance. Responsibilities include designing comprehensive lesson plans, evaluating written assignments, and guiding students through both classical and contemporary works.

Government, History, and Civic Education encompass disciplines dedicated to the study of political systems, historical events, and the principles of active citizenship, respectively. These fields analyze the structures, functions, and evolution of governance, explore past societies and their impacts on contemporary issues, and emphasize the rights, responsibilities, and participation of individuals in democratic processes. Students in these areas develop critical thinking, research, and analytical skills to interpret complex societal dynamics and contribute meaningfully to informed civic engagement. The curriculum often integrates diverse perspectives, primary sources, and case studies to foster a deeper understanding of societal progress, conflict resolution, and the foundations of justice and equality.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background in Economics and Commerce, complemented by relevant professional experience. Proficiency in quantitative analysis, statistical modeling, and economic forecasting is essential, along with a deep understanding of market dynamics and policy implications. Responsibilities include conducting research, analyzing trends, and providing strategic recommendations to stakeholders. Excellent communication skills are required to present complex findings clearly and persuasively. The role demands meticulous attention to detail, critical thinking, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Christian Religious Studies (CRS) and Islamic Religious Studies (IRS) encompass the academic examination of Christian and Islamic faiths, respectively. These disciplines explore sacred texts, theological doctrines, historical development, and practical applications of each religion, fostering a comprehensive understanding of their cultural, ethical, and spiritual dimensions. Proficiency in these areas is essential for educators, religious scholars, and professionals seeking to engage with diverse faith communities or contribute to interfaith dialogue. Coursework typically includes scriptural analysis, comparative religion, and the study of major religious figures and movements.

Proficiency in Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, and other relevant indigenous languages is required, as applicable.

Geography, with a focus on the humanities, encompasses the study of spatial relationships, cultural landscapes, and societal interactions across diverse regions. It integrates qualitative and quantitative methodologies to analyze human behavior, environmental perceptions, and the impacts of globalization. This discipline examines historical and contemporary patterns of migration, urban development, and resource distribution, emphasizing the interplay between society and the physical world. Professionals in this field contribute to urban planning, policymaking, and sustainable development initiatives, leveraging spatial data and ethnographic research to address complex societal challenges. A strong foundation in social sciences, research methodologies, and analytical tools is essential for advancing insightful interpretations and practical applications in human geography.
