The Drill Locator (Skilled) position for HDD Operations is a full-time, on-site role located in Lagos. This role entails the operation and management of horizontal directional drilling machinery used in construction and maintenance projects. The Drill Locator is tasked with designing, monitoring, and directing drill trajectories during Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operations to guarantee precise underground utility placement and to avoid damaging existing infrastructure.
Oversee and execute critical tasks associated with the role, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Lead and collaborate on projects, applying expertise to drive efficiency and innovation. Develop and implement strategies to enhance performance, while maintaining rigorous adherence to established policies and procedures. Serve as a key liaison between departments, facilitating seamless communication and coordination. Monitor progress and provide actionable feedback to stakeholders, fostering continuous improvement. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal governance standards to mitigate risks and uphold accountability.
Utilize project drawings and utility maps to strategically plan and prepare HDD bore routes.
Configure and fine-tune HDD locating and tracking systems to ensure precise calibration for optimal performance.
Deliver live updates on drill head positioning and furnish immediate operational guidance to drilling crews.
Locate and safely circumvent underground utilities and external infrastructure to prevent disruptions or hazards.
Identify and resolve drilling-related issues, providing recommendations for corrective measures.
Ensure drilling records, reports, and quality assurance documentation are maintained with precision and accuracy.

A Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.), Higher National Diploma (HND), or Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (SSC) in Engineering, Telecommunications, Applied Sciences, or a comparable discipline is required.
Requires a minimum of two years of hands-on experience as a Drill Locator in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operations.
Requires hands-on experience with high-definition locating tools and utility detection technologies.
Proficient in analyzing and understanding technical drawings and utility maps.
Exceptional proficiency in communication, adept problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative team-oriented approach are essential.
Proficiency in underground utility installation methods and adherence to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards are required.
