Job Summary
A distinguished and expanding Microfinance Bank located in EISTI State is in search of a detail-oriented, compliance-focused, and highly qualified financial expert to fill the role of Account Officer, specializing in Financial Control and Regulatory Returns.
The incumbent will report directly to the Head of Financial Control (HFC) and assume a pivotal responsibility in safeguarding the accuracy of the bank’s financial records while ensuring full compliance with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and FDIC regulatory reporting frameworks. Additionally, the role will involve overseeing day-to-day accounting operations.
Oversee a range of critical duties including the development and implementation of strategic plans, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Lead and mentor teams to drive performance, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment. Manage key projects from initiation to completion, adhering to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Analyze operational data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement, providing actionable insights to senior leadership. Collaborate cross-functionally with departments to streamline processes and enhance overall efficiency. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and best practices while mitigating risks. Serve as a primary point of contact for stakeholders, addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly and effectively.
Prepare, review, and submit statutory returns—including daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly filings—accurately and on schedule to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) through FINA or other designated platforms, as well as the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and other relevant regulatory bodies.
Maintain precise general ledger records, validate transaction postings, and uphold adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and national accounting regulations for all financial activities.
Perform systematic and meticulous bank reconciliations, inter-branch account reconciliations, and comprehensive balance sheet reviews to identify and address discrepancies with urgency.
Tax Management: Provide support in calculating, submitting, and paying all applicable statutory taxes, including Withholding Tax (WHT), Value-Added Tax (VAT), and Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax, to the relevant State and Federal tax authorities.
Provide budgetary support by collaborating with the Head of Financial Control to develop annual budgets, implement budgetary control procedures, and conduct variance analyses.
Maintain and update the bank’s fixed asset register with precision, ensuring accurate tracking of depreciation and capital expenditures.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required. Minimum of three years of experience in software development, preferably with a focus on mobile applications or distributed systems, is necessary. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript is essential. Familiarity with frameworks like React Native, Spring Boot, or Node.js is highly desirable. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are crucial. Excellent communication skills for effectively conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders are also required.
A Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field is required.
A minimum of two to four years of hands-on accounting or financial control experience within a regulated financial institution is required, with a preference for candidates from Microfinance Banks or Deposit Money Banks.
Technical Knowledge: Possesses a comprehensive grasp of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Revised Regulatory and Supervisory Guidelines for Microfinance Banks, IFRS standards, and prescribed financial return formats.
Professional certifications in mid-stage progress or full qualification from recognized bodies such as ICAN (ACA), ARCA, or CBN (ACID) will provide a significant competitive edge.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel at a high level, along with practical experience utilizing contemporary Core Banking Applications (CBA) and regulatory reporting portals, is required.
