Main Purpose
Conduct counselling and educational sessions with patients, adhering to various medical and mental health protocols and procedures established by Médecins sans frontières (MSF), aimed at enhancing their psychosocial well-being.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
Deliver proactive outreach initiatives to ensure community awareness of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services, integrating this effort within a collaborative, multidisciplinary framework dedicated to providing comprehensive care for survivors of sexual violence.
In partnership with the Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) at the Primary Health Care Center (PHC), you will engage key community stakeholders within the catchment area and coordinate targeted initiatives to enhance understanding of mental health care and sexual violence prevention.
Identify and connect community members who have endured sexual violence with MSF’s comprehensive, multidisciplinary support services at the Primary Health Care (PHC) level while strictly upholding confidentiality and actively reducing the risk of further trauma.
In partnership with fellow Médecins sans frontières (MSF) colleagues, deliver psychosocial interventions designed to foster community engagement in emotional wellness while mitigating the psychological consequences of sexual and other forms of violence affecting children, adolescents, and adults.
Facilitate structured group counseling sessions, including PM+ and IPT modalities, for patients and their families to enhance coping skills and problem-solving abilities.
Provide psychoeducational and individual counseling sessions exclusively as needed, particularly in the absence of the attending psychologist.
Responsible for documenting and tracking records and statistics pertaining to MHPSS activities conducted within the community. Any challenges or concerns encountered during daily operations must be promptly reported to the direct supervisor.
Provide training, supervision, and technical reinforcement to community members, PHC staff, and other partners as required to support implementation efforts.
Engage collaboratively in clinical case discussions and attend supervision sessions facilitated by the HAM.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience required; proficiency in specific programming languages and tools is essential; demonstrated experience with project management methodologies preferred; strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills are necessary; excellent communication and collaboration skills are a must; ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment is required.
Education Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Additionally, possession of an advanced degree, such as a Master’s or MBA, is highly preferred. Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education, provided it aligns closely with the role’s core competencies.
Essential:
A recognized qualification—such as an ND, HND, Bachelor’s Degree, or Diploma—is required in fields including counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or related disciplines, or equivalent certifications from MSF training programs within the designated area.
With experience in a related field, candidates should possess a proven track record of successfully executing tasks within their domain. The ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages is essential for facilitating interactions with diverse stakeholders and ensuring accurate information exchange in various contexts.
Proficiency in both Igbo and English is a fundamental requirement for this role.
