Position Overview

Sea learn Academy is currently inviting applications for the position of Junior Lecturer in Maritime Studies, seeking a highly competent and qualified candidate to join our academic team.

Overseeing a diverse range of critical tasks, this role involves managing core operational functions, ensuring compliance with established protocols, and driving efficiency across departmental processes. Key duties include developing and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance productivity, fostering collaboration among team members to achieve organizational goals, and maintaining rigorous adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the position requires analyzing performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement, preparing detailed reports for senior leadership, and serving as a liaison between departments to facilitate seamless communication and workflow. Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and a proven track record in leadership roles with at least five years of relevant experience in a similar capacity.

Support the creation and refinement of curriculum alongside senior faculty while preparing courseware and other instructional resources.

Under supervision, design and produce educational materials while delivering engaging lectures, presentations, tutorials, and hands-on practical sessions covering key maritime subjects, including navigation, seamanship, cargo handling, environmental protection, maritime safety, and associated disciplines.

Assist in designing, evaluating, and refining student coursework and assessments to ensure academic rigor and alignment with learning objectives.

Deliver comprehensive academic assistance to students, ensuring their educational needs are met and fostering their academic success through targeted guidance and resources.

Stay current with the latest developments, best practices, and regulatory updates within the maritime sector.

Engage actively in departmental meetings, contribute to academic planning initiatives, uphold quality assurance standards, and pursue ongoing professional development opportunities.

Participate actively in academic pursuits by exploring research avenues and advancing professional qualifications through further study.

The role necessitates a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, complemented by a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a comparable position. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, along with exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Strong interpersonal skills are required to foster effective collaboration and communication within cross-functional teams. The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high attention to detail is crucial. Familiarity with project management methodologies and compliance standards is also a key requirement.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Studies, Nautical Science, or a closely related discipline is required, with preference given to candidates holding a Master’s Degree or those currently enrolled in one.

A minimum of five years of seagoing experience is required. Applicants must possess a recognized professional certification, such as a Master (F.G.) or Chief Officer Certificate of Competency, issued by a reputable Flag administration. Additionally, the candidate should have served in a management-level capacity as either a Master or Chief Officer.

Possesses an Administration-endorsed certification in either the “Train the Trainer” program or the “Train the Simulator Trainer” course.

Teaching or training exposure, whether in a formal or informal capacity, including as part of professional responsibilities, is beneficial.

Proficient knowledge of international maritime regulations, with particular expertise in the Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping (STCW) framework.

Individuals must demonstrate a commitment to ongoing academic advancement and continuous professional growth.

Familiarity with educational theories, learning methodologies, and the strategic design of instructional courses will be considered beneficial.

Proficiency in utilizing maritime simulators and e-learning platforms is essential.

Proven capability to thrive in collaborative academic and culturally diverse settings while fostering inclusive teamwork and mutual respect.

Dedication to upholding exceptional benchmarks in educational excellence and instructional quality is paramount.

Demonstrates exceptional ability to communicate clearly, engage effectively with others, and deliver compelling presentations.

Proficient in utilizing MS Office and various software applications and tools, demonstrating strong computer literacy.

Seeking candidates with preferred qualifications and relevant experience, including a strong background in the field, relevant certifications, and a proven track record of success in similar roles. Ideal applicants should possess excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity is highly valued, as is familiarity with industry-specific tools and technologies. A minimum of three years of professional experience in a related field is typically required, along with a relevant degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A PhD in maritime education or a related discipline is required.

A Certificate of Competency granted by a recognized Flag Administration.

With a background in teaching within the jurisdiction of a recognized Flag administration, the ideal candidate will possess relevant instructional experience.

Recent involvement in Massive Simulation (MASS) projects, with a focus on simulation-based research, is required.

Conducting ongoing studies and investigations in the field of maritime research.
