Job Summary
The 2Africa Managed Service Lead will oversee the end-to-end delivery of the 2Africa Submarine, terrestrial networks, and third-party colocation facilities.
Direct the team in executing operational tasks and maintenance activities, such as upgrades and decommissioning of network elements, which require coordination across multiple divisions.
Oversees the organization and management of administrative tasks, scheduling, and operational activities within the unit.
Contribute to the creation and development of new proposals and other project-related initiatives.
Additional responsibilities encompass providing third-level support for the CLS network infrastructure, which includes Power Feed Equipment (PFE) and ROAD systems (Cain, ASN, and Nokia equipment), as well as managing third-party repeater Point of Presence (Pop) site facilities.
The role demands seamless collaboration across multiple teams and Landing partners, coupled with strict adherence to established timelines and service level agreements (SLAs).
Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of duties to ensure operational excellence, including managing project timelines, coordinating team efforts, and maintaining stringent quality standards. Collaborate with cross-functional departments to align objectives, facilitate communication, and drive collaborative problem-solving initiatives. Perform rigorous data analysis to identify trends, evaluate performance metrics, and recommend data-driven improvements. Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings, strategies, and progress to stakeholders. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry best practices while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Additionally, the individual will undertake the following key responsibilities:
Manage the fulfillment of support requests across various Transmission platforms while adhering to the operational level agreement (OLA) guidelines.
Offer technical assistance in diagnosing and resolving network issues affecting the Submarine Power Feed Equipment (PFE), DWM/OTN, ROAD networks, and facility systems within the Submarine Cable landing station.
Investigate and determine the underlying sources of persistent or recurring faults across the Submarine network, terrestrial fiber routes, and facility systems, which impact network performance, and develop recommendations and a strategic action plan to resolve them.
Effective collaboration with landing parties and equipment vendors is required to resolve equipment-related issues, while also liaising with third-party network and facility providers to address operational challenges concerning leased resources.
Provide comprehensive support across all facets of network management, ensuring that requests, implementations, and issues are addressed promptly and effectively without disrupting global communication infrastructures.
Facilitate the scheduling and execution of performance review sessions involving both internal team members and external partners.
Attend strategic network operations meetings alongside technical teams and partner organizations to foster collaboration and alignment.
Assist in overseeing tasks delegated by the NOC, ensuring strict adherence to implementation protocols and comprehensive documentation standards.
Maintain the accuracy and currency of all documentation at all times.
Effective oversight of operational and capital expenditure, along with comprehensive cost management, is essential. This role requires meticulous monitoring of financial resources to ensure optimal allocation and efficiency across all expenditures.
Oversees a program dedicated to service, repair, and inventory management, ensuring seamless operations and efficient resource allocation.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Electronics, or Telecommunication Engineering is required.
Candidates should possess a minimum of twelve years of hands-on experience in Transmission Networks, including at least four years dedicated to Facility Management, following the completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYC) program.
Professional experience in leading teams is a prerequisite.
Proficient in evaluating engineering documents and offering recommendations for execution upon request.
Skilled in configuring and operating testing equipment, including Ethernet Analyzers, ODR, and power testing tools/instruments, as well as interpreting and analyzing their results.
Proficient in diagnosing, resolving issues, and proposing solutions for DWDM/OTN equipment, as well as power systems including DG, Cooling, Rectifier, and UPS.
Experienced with fault management protocols, systems, and best practices to ensure efficient troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues.
Must possess strong capabilities to manage diverse contracts involving industry, government, and public sector stakeholders in project-related matters.
Possesses robust analytical capabilities and a strong aptitude for making data-driven decisions.
Demonstrated capability to coordinate, delegate, and inspire team members and key stakeholders to successfully meet the project-specific service delivery objectives.
Establishing collaborative working relationships with public officials, vendors, and fellow agency managers is essential.
Maintains expertise in vendor management practices and methodologies.
