"IATA: Leading research in hunger, nutrition, and poverty solutions."
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IATA) stands as a premier global research institution dedicated to addressing hunger, malnutrition, and poverty through innovative solutions. Recognized for its excellence, the institute’s research for development (R4D) initiatives directly tackle the critical needs of tropical nations. By collaborating with partners worldwide, IATA enhances crop resilience, improves nutritional value and productivity, mitigates risks for producers and consumers, and fosters sustainable economic growth in agriculture.
Established in 1967 as a nonprofit organization, IATA operates under the guidance of a Board of Trustees and receives support from multiple countries. Its core mission is to strengthen food security and uplift livelihoods across Africa through impact-driven research and development.
Utilizing the R4D model, IATA prioritizes tackling pressing developmental challenges in Africa over purely academic contributions. This approach has proven highly effective in advancing agricultural research and innovation. Over the past three decades, the institute and its partners have contributed approximately 70% of the total international research impact in sub-Saharan Africa.
