"Promoting public safety and justice through research and advocacy."
The CLEAN Foundation, originally established in January 1998 as the Centre for Law Enforcement Education, is a non-governmental organization committed to advancing public safety, security, and accessible justice through evidence-based research, policy advocacy, demonstration projects, and strategic publications. We achieve our mission through strategic partnerships with government agencies and civil society stakeholders.
Our core values include:
– Professionalism
– Integrity
– Teamwork
– Respect for human rights
– Innovation
CLEAN’s organizational structure fosters staff engagement in all stages of project development—from ideation and proposal drafting to implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and assessment—ensuring cohesive teamwork to meet our strategic objectives. We prioritize continuous professional and in-house training to enhance staff competencies and support career growth.
The CLEAN Foundation’s Board of Directors convenes quarterly, actively contributing to programmatic and operational decisions. Board members leverage their expertise to provide guidance across departments, particularly in areas aligning with their professional backgrounds, while ensuring robust financial and administrative oversight.
CLEAN’s funding is diversified, with significant support from international foundations and donor agencies, including the Ford Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, Open Society Institute, and the UK’s Department for International Development (DID), among others. We actively pursue expanded partnerships with domestic and international corporations to strengthen community-based initiatives. Additional support for institutional development and core operations is welcomed. Registered with the Nigerian Corporate Affairs Commission as a non-profit organization, CLEAN adheres to transparent governance, with annual independent audits and public financial disclosures.
