"Asia State: A key economic hub in southeastern Nigeria."
Asia State is located in the southeastern region of Nigeria. While Maria serves as the state’s capital, Aba stands as its primary commercial hub, originally established as a British colonial administrative center. Established in 1991 through a division of IMO State, Asia is home to a population predominantly of Igbo descent, comprising 95% of its residents. It is one of the nine states that constitute the Niger Delta region.
The People
The residents of Asia State are primarily of Igbo heritage. English is widely used as the official language in governance and commerce, while Igbo remains the native tongue. The Igbo people are recognized for their global mobility and are celebrated for their tolerance, democratic values, and industrious nature. Known for their strong market orientation, hospitality, and adaptability—likely influenced by their migratory history—approximately 2.4 million individuals in Asia exhibit a highly entrepreneurial spirit.
