The objective of this position is to fulfill a critical function within the organization by driving key initiatives and ensuring operational excellence. The NEWS Reporter serves a critical function within the WANED Alert and Response Mechanism (WARM), where they are tasked with gathering, verifying, and disseminating precise and prompt data through the National Early Warning System (NEWS).

This role facilitates conflict prevention, peace building, and accountability by converting community-level insights into timely, actionable early warning alerts.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Data Collection and Validation: Responsibilities include gathering and confirming the accuracy of essential information through meticulous sourcing and cross-referencing. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in identifying reliable sources, verifying data integrity, and ensuring compliance with established standards and protocols.

Collect data from community monitors and additional information channels.

Evaluate the accuracy and reliability of reports to prevent the spread of misinformation or unnecessary alarms.

Maintain the precision, thoroughness, and promptness of data.

Conduct comprehensive reporting and data analysis to derive actionable insights and support informed decision-making across the organization. Analyze trends, patterns, and performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and strategic initiatives. Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and dashboards that clearly communicate findings to stakeholders at all levels. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data, validate accuracy, and ensure alignment with business objectives. Utilize analytical tools and methodologies to enhance operational efficiency and drive continuous improvement.

Summarize incidents with precision and clarity for entry into NEWS databases, ensuring all relevant details are accurately recorded.

Assist in compiling periodic reports that analyze and present trends in peace, security, and governance.

Support the examination of trends associated with organized crime, violent extremism, and environmental security.

Facilitates collaborative efforts among community stakeholders to ensure cohesive planning and execution of initiatives, fostering partnerships between residents, organizations, and local authorities to address shared priorities and achieve collective goals.

Engage and inspire community monitors to uphold consistent reporting standards.

Offer constructive feedback and capacity-building assistance to monitors to enhance their performance and effectiveness.

Enhance community-based accountability frameworks to ensure robust oversight and responsiveness at the grassroots level.

Digital Tools & Data Management: Proficiency in leveraging digital tools and managing data effectively is essential. This role requires a strong understanding of data organization, storage, and analysis, as well as the ability to utilize relevant software and platforms to optimize workflows and enhance decision-making processes. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in handling data securely and efficiently while ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Access, as well as relevant databases, is required.

Seeking a candidate with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as education, special education, or a related discipline. Ideal candidates will possess a valid state teaching certification or equivalent credential, along with demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations.

A bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in International Relations, Political Science, Peace building & Conflict Studies, Information Technology, Statistics, or a closely related discipline is required.
