Job Summary
The Managing Director will spearhead strategic leadership for the cooperative, fostering membership expansion while overseeing credit and loan operations with precision. Additionally, the role involves directing staff performance, reinforcing financial controls, and ensuring operations are both profitable and sustainable.
Oversee and execute a range of critical duties, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and maintaining high standards of performance. Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, foster innovation, and drive continuous improvement across departments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for optimization, streamline processes, and achieve measurable outcomes. Monitor key performance indicators to assess progress, identify trends, and implement corrective actions as needed. Serve as a liaison between leadership and frontline staff, facilitating clear communication and ensuring policy adherence. Provide mentorship and professional development guidance to team members, fostering a culture of accountability and growth.
Direct the ongoing activities of the cooperative while providing updates to the Board and Executive Committee.
Facilitate the expansion of membership, encourage the accumulation of savings, and advance business development initiatives.
Responsibilities include managing the entire loan process, from marketing and appraisal to disbursement, ongoing monitoring, and final recovery of funds.
Oversee the accounting and financial reporting functions, manage cash flow, and ensure robust internal controls are in place.
Oversee staff performance, foster teamwork, maintain discipline, and ensure service delivery.
Ensure thorough documentation, maintain regulatory compliance, manage risks effectively, and prepare for audits.
Develop and maintain strong connections with individuals, organizations, community groups, and local businesses in Cuba and its surrounding regions.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of five years of progressive experience in financial management, accounting, or a comparable role. Strong proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and advanced Excel skills are essential. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities are necessary to interpret complex data, generate actionable insights, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Leadership experience overseeing financial operations, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance with regulatory standards is preferred.
A bachelor’s degree in fields such as Accounting, Banking and Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Marketing, Cooperative Management, or other related commercial or social science disciplines is required.
Candidates must possess a minimum of seven years of pertinent experience, with five years of that tenure dedicated to leadership roles within financial institutions such as banks, microfinance institutions, cooperatives, or credit organizations.
Proven expertise in marketing, credit administration, accounting, loans management, and team leadership, with extensive hands-on experience in each discipline.
Required competencies include proficiency in analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication, along with a strong command of relevant software tools and technical expertise in the specified field. Applicants must demonstrate prior experience in a similar role, showcasing the ability to manage projects independently and collaborate seamlessly within cross-functional teams. Additionally, familiarity with industry standards, regulatory compliance, and best practices is essential, as is the capacity to adapt to evolving priorities and deliver results under tight deadlines.
