Role Summary

The Audit Officer will oversee the assessment and enhancement of internal control frameworks, perform both scheduled and unplanned audits across all locations, validate financial and operational documentation, and enforce full adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong self-discipline, an analytical mindset, and a keen ability to detect risks, inefficiencies, and operational gaps in a dynamic retail setting.

Oversee and execute a range of critical duties, including managing daily operations, implementing strategic initiatives, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive project completion, optimize workflows, and enhance overall efficiency. Monitor performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and recommend data-driven solutions to achieve business objectives. Internal Audit & Controls: Responsible for evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes across the organization. Develops and implements comprehensive audit plans to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. Conducts independent assessments of financial and operational activities to identify control deficiencies and recommend corrective actions. Collaborates with management to integrate robust internal controls and foster a culture of accountability and transparency. Ensures timely and accurate reporting of audit findings, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to strengthen the organization’s control environment.

Perform consistent internal audit assessments throughout all retail locations and head office functions.

Conducting station audits represents a fundamental responsibility within this role, ensuring adherence to established protocols and operational standards.

Conduct scheduled as well as unannounced audits at fueling locations to ensure compliance with established standards.

Daily verification of sales, cash collections, POS transactions, and bank lodgements must be completed to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial protocols.

To ensure accuracy, compare fuel sales data against pump readings, tank dips, and stock records for reconciliation purposes.

Maintain accurate documentation of all station transactions and supporting records.

Examine discrepancies, shortages, and variances in sales or stock to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

Conduct thorough audits to verify the accuracy and completeness of inventory records and asset registers, ensuring alignment with physical assets and organizational standards.

Monitor and oversee fuel inventory levels, including PMS, AGO, DPK, lubricants, and related products.

Perform physical inventory counts and verify discrepancies by comparing them with recorded data.

Confirm the operational status of all station assets, such as pumps, generators, meters, and other critical equipment.

Identify and document instances of asset losses, theft, or mismanagement, promptly notifying appropriate stakeholders to mitigate risks and ensure accountability.

Enforce compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies to ensure adherence to legal and ethical standards. Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures to mitigate risks and maintain operational integrity. Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify gaps and recommend corrective actions.
