Basic Function:
The role involves administering treatment for severe acute malnutrition (SAM), whether complicated or uncomplicated, delivering nutrition rehabilitation to admitted SAM patients, and mitigating further decline through the administration of therapeutic feeds and both routine and specialized medications. Additionally, the position entails supervising health and nutrition counseling services, as well as the professional development of Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CAM) assistants.
Oversee, manage, and execute a broad spectrum of tasks and obligations, ensuring adherence to established protocols and standards. Responsible for coordinating, organizing, and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines and objectives efficiently. Facilitate communication and collaboration among team members to foster a cohesive and productive work environment. Monitor progress, evaluate performance, and provide constructive feedback to enhance productivity and quality. Address and resolve issues promptly to minimize disruptions and maintain operational continuity.
Lead community outreach initiatives and conduct mid-upper arm circumference screenings to actively identify cases of malnutrition among children under five within target communities and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. Deliver Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) services in these areas, including defaulter tracing, follow-up visits, and dissemination of key health messages at OTP sites. Identify complications, non-responders, and facilitate two-way referrals to stabilization centers (SC) based on established protocols, ensuring timely interventions.
Develop and implement a Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CAM) work plan, analyze malnutrition trends from admission data, and conduct mortality audits at the OTP. Assist the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) unit during assessments, focus group discussions, and the preparation and submission of timely reports. Maintain accurate documentation of services and continuously monitor OTP performance and indicators.
Support the effective management of severely acute malnourished (SAM) children with complications at the Stabilization Centre (SC), ensuring correct clinical diagnoses, comprehensive health assessments, and adherence to treatment protocols. Verify that all admission, discharge, and transfer criteria between OTP and SC are properly understood and applied. Conduct daily ward rounds and develop a 24-hour call-duty roster for the CAMPS assistant.
Perform weekly and monthly physical inventories of nutrition supplies to track stock levels, ensure adequate availability of medical and food supplies, and coordinate with logistics to pre-position stock as planned. Oversee the preparation of therapeutic milk and food for SAM children and caregivers, ensuring compliance with safety standards. Collaborate closely with CAM assistants at the SC to reinforce protocol adherence, facilitate appropriate referrals between OTP and SC, and ensure comprehensive health checks, including vital sign monitoring, medication administration, and treatment adherence.
Report progress and challenges promptly, respond to technical inquiries regarding program admissions and discharges, and maintain updated patient records—including critical care pathway (CCP) cards and OTP follow-up cards—to ensure accuracy, completeness, and patient progress tracking. Deliver tailored health education messages to beneficiaries in alignment with established protocols and guidelines.
Compile statistical data on admissions, defaults, cures, absences, and deaths, and draft activity reports. Assist in standardized monitoring and assessment initiatives such as SMART, SQUEAK, and other nutrition surveys at the Local Government Area (LGA) level. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Assists with supplementary duties as assigned, including but not limited to supporting team initiatives, contributing to cross-functional projects, and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. May involve coordinating schedules, managing documentation, or facilitating communication between departments. Responsibilities could extend to assisting with training, monitoring performance metrics, or participating in strategic planning sessions when required.

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required, along with at least three years of professional experience in software development. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is essential, alongside experience with frameworks like React or Angular. Strong problem-solving abilities and a collaborative mindset are critical, and familiarity with Agile methodologies is preferred. Excellent communication skills are also necessary to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing along with 1 to 3 years of relevant experience is required. Alternatively, an MBBS degree with at least one year of experience is acceptable. Prior involvement with a humanitarian organization is considered an advantage.
