Vanguard Media Limited, the publisher of *Vanguard Newspapers*, was founded in 1984 by Mr. Sam Amuka—a distinguished journalist and columnist renowned for his *Sad Sam* commentary. Mr. Amuka previously served as the Editor of *Sunday Times* and held the position of Managing Director at *The Punch Newspaper*. A native of Itsekiri land in present-day Delta State, Nigeria, he established the company with a vision to uphold journalistic integrity and public service.
Vanguard Media Limited debuted with its first weekly edition on Sunday, June 3, 1984, under the motto: *”Towards a better life for the People.”* The publication transitioned to a daily format on July 15, 1984.
