Main Purpose

Conduct counselling and/or educational sessions with patients in accordance with established Médecins sans frontières (MSF) medical and mental health protocols and procedures, with the objective of enhancing their psychosocial well-being.

MSF’s Section-specific Accountabilities involve ensuring that designated operational and programmatic goals are met within predefined parameters. This includes overseeing the implementation of section-specific strategies, managing resources effectively, and maintaining alignment with broader organizational objectives. Additionally, the role requires rigorous adherence to MSF’s ethical, medical, and operational standards, while fostering collaboration across teams to optimize impact.

Proactively enhance community awareness of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services by implementing a multidisciplinary strategy to address the needs of sexual violence survivors.

Working closely with the Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) at the Primary Health Care Center (PHC), you will engage key stakeholders within the catchment area to foster awareness initiatives focused on mental health care and sexual violence prevention. This involves identifying influential community members and coordinating targeted activities to disseminate critical information on these pressing health concerns.

Identify individuals within the community who have experienced sexual violence and connect them with MSF’s comprehensive care services at the Primary Health Care (PHC) level, ensuring strict adherence to confidentiality principles and actively preventing any form of revictimization.

In partnership with fellow MSF personnel, implement psychosocial programs designed to foster community engagement in emotional wellness while mitigating the psychological consequences of sexual violence and other forms of abuse affecting children, adolescents, and adults.

Facilitate structured group counseling sessions, such as PM+ or IPT, for patients and their families to enhance coping skills and problem-solving abilities.

Perform Psychological First Aid (PFA) and one-on-one counseling sessions exclusively as needed and in the psychologist’s absence.

You are responsible for documenting and tracking statistics related to Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) initiatives within the community. Additionally, you must promptly escalate any challenges or concerns encountered during daily operations to your direct supervisor for immediate attention and resolution.

Assist in delivering training initiatives, providing supervision, and offering technical reinforcement to community members, PHC staff, and relevant partners as required.

Engage proactively in clinical case discussions and attend supervision sessions led by the HAM.
