Job Summary

The proprietary trader’s role involves allocating and overseeing the firm’s capital across multiple asset classes to enhance returns, all while strictly complying with established internal risk management protocols.

Responsibilities include designing, testing, and implementing advanced trading strategies through a combination of technical and fundamental analysis, while consistently evaluating market trends and utilizing cutting-edge trading technologies and platforms.

Within the Investments department, this role demands robust analytical capabilities, keen commercial insight into the Nigerian capital markets, and collaborative engagement with risk managers and the broader investment team to propel strategic portfolio expansion.

Oversee and execute a range of critical duties essential to the role, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and operational standards. Lead and manage key initiatives, projects, or processes, maintaining high levels of efficiency and accountability throughout execution. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive seamless communication, coordination, and the timely delivery of results. Assess and improve workflows, policies, and procedures to enhance productivity, reduce redundancies, and foster continuous improvement. Serve as a primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing expert guidance, resolving escalated issues, and ensuring adherence to best practices. Monitor performance metrics and key indicators to evaluate progress, identify trends, and implement data-driven solutions for sustained success.

Execute trades spanning diverse asset classes utilizing the firm’s proprietary capital.

Craft and execute trading strategies grounded in technical and/or fundamental analysis to capitalize on market opportunities.

Regularly assess market developments and modify approaches in response to performance metrics and evolving market dynamics.

Oversee and regulate risk exposure in alignment with established internal risk management protocols.

Stay current with the latest market developments, economic indicators, and advancements in trading technologies.

Compile comprehensive performance reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to track progress and highlight key metrics.

Work collaboratively alongside traders, analysts, and risk managers to achieve shared objectives and enhance overall performance.

Conduct comprehensive back-testing of strategies and refine models to bolster profit margins.

Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, alongside three or more years of professional experience in software development or a closely related role. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++ is required, along with experience in designing and implementing scalable systems. Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment are essential. Knowledge of cloud platforms, version control tools, and agile methodologies is also mandatory.

A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or an equivalent discipline is required.

With five years of active trading experience within a proprietary trading setting or an equivalent financial capacity, candidates should demonstrate a strong background in trading operations.

Professional certifications such as the CFA or FRM provide a distinct competitive edge.

Proficient in Nigerian capital market instruments and well-versed in trading regulations.

Skilled in utilizing trading platforms like X-Gen (NGX trading engine), Bloomberg (where accessible), or proprietary trading terminals.

Proven ability to interpret complex data, apply quantitative methodologies, and derive actionable insights through rigorous analysis.

Proficiency in financial markets, instruments, and trading strategies is essential.

Accomplished in evaluating risks and exercising sound judgment to drive effective outcomes.

Exceptional proficiency in both verbal and written communication, along with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within diverse teams, is required.
