ACF Nigeria is currently seeking a qualified Hygiene Officer to oversee the effective execution of public health promotion initiatives and the distribution of Non-Food Items under the WASH project.
Position Details
Reporting directly to the WASH Program Manager, this role entails close collaboration and alignment with the designated supervisor to ensure effective implementation of water, sanitation, and hygiene initiatives.
Guru, Lobe State serves as the designated work location for this position.
Oversee a range of critical duties, including managing daily operations, coordinating team efforts, and ensuring adherence to company policies and industry regulations. Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and drive organizational growth. Supervise staff performance, provide constructive feedback, and foster a collaborative work environment that encourages professional development. Monitor key performance indicators to assess progress, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as needed. Maintain open communication with senior leadership to align departmental goals with broader business objectives.
Overall responsibility for the strategic oversight and implementation of public health promotion initiatives and the distribution of non-food items, in strict adherence to Action Against Hunger’s local strategy and international best practices.
Conduct a collaborative, multi-sectoral rapid needs assessment, analyze the gathered data, and develop a targeted hygiene promotion strategy informed by the assessment’s outcomes.
Implement the WISH EM methodology and gather pertinent data to inform tailored hygiene promotion initiatives.
Implement and advance the Baby-Wash methodology to enhance hygiene promotion initiatives specifically tailored to local contexts, while systematically gathering and analyzing data to refine and strengthen these interventions.
In collaboration with the WASH Program Manager, they are tasked with updating and tailoring hygiene promotion training and IEC materials to align with the local context—developed as a communication plan—and to suit the specific groups being trained.
Ensure that all monitoring mechanisms align with the agreed-upon monitoring format.
Regularly evaluating emergency requirements upon request, with particular emphasis on incorporating the wider context of public health considerations.
Plan the selection and registration of beneficiaries, and oversee the distribution of NFL kits in collaboration with the Field Assistant team.
Collaborate effectively with the MEAL team to guarantee thorough post-distribution monitoring (PDM) of all non-food items (NFS) distributed.
Ensure all work adheres to the established minimum standards outlined by the SPHERE framework.
Provide support to the WISH Program Manager by contributing to community mobilization efforts as needed.
Ensure that all technical deliverables align with the diverse needs and preferences of various target audiences while maintaining compliance with public health safety standards.
Objective 2 involves developing and enhancing the capabilities of staff members and partners through targeted training initiatives. This includes designing, implementing, and evaluating programs that foster skill development, knowledge sharing, and collaborative learning to strengthen overall organizational and partnership effectiveness.
Ensure all PHP team members—including volunteers and staff—as well as external partners, are fully knowledgeable about the hygiene promotion strategy and that all initiatives align with the defined strategy.
Develop educational materials covering pertinent technical subjects and facilitate training sessions for internal personnel as well as external partners.
Collaborate with the WASH Program Manager to create and refine technical guidelines and tools.
Evaluate potential areas for enhancement while documenting key lessons learned to inform and improve subsequent initiatives.
Coordinate collaboratively with internal team members and local stakeholders to facilitate seamless project execution.
Collaborating effectively with the WASH Program Manager during the planning, design, and execution phases of public health promotion initiatives focused on WASH.
Serving as the organization’s representative at local-level WASH meetings and technical working groups, you will collaborate on initiatives focused on public health promotion and the distribution of non-food items (NFS) as directed by your line manager.
Collaborate effectively with the Nutrition and Health team to align activities aimed at enhancing service delivery for the designated population.
Objective 4: Provide leadership and oversight to the team members entrusted to your supervision, ensuring optimal performance and professional development.
Concurrently, you will play a key role in the hiring process for new team members, ensuring alignment with the approved organizational framework and structure.
You will oversee the day-to-day operations of your direct reports, ensuring their performance aligns with organizational goals while fostering a productive and supportive work environment.
Crafting performance objectives for direct reports and conducting evaluations in accordance with ACTION ANAGEN HUNGER’s performance management framework are key responsibilities, along with pinpointing opportunities for additional support and targeted capacity development.
Facilitate seamless collaboration and alignment with fellow WASH technical team members to enhance overall coordination and integration efforts.
The ideal candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, along with a minimum of three years of professional experience in a similar role. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, as is the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are required to meet project deadlines and collaborate with cross-functional teams. A commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to evolving technologies is also necessary. Additionally, prior experience in [specific industry or function] is preferred but not mandatory.
A Bachelor of Science degree in a field related to public and environmental health, hygiene, and sanitation is required.
Must demonstrate flexibility to undertake travel to any destination throughout Northern Nigeria as required.
