Job Summary:
The Structural/Site Engineer designs, analyzes, and supervises structural elements of construction projects while managing daily site operations to ensure compliance with design specifications, quality benchmarks, and safety protocols. This position involves overseeing personnel and subcontractors, allocating resources efficiently, addressing on-site challenges, and facilitating communication between the project manager and field team to maintain project timelines and budgetary targets.
Key Responsibilities include overseeing project execution from initiation to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, provide updates, and resolve issues is essential. Leading meetings, delegating tasks, and monitoring progress are critical duties. Additionally, the role involves conducting risk assessments, implementing mitigation strategies, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and industry regulations.
Develop precise structural drawings with proficiency in AutoCAD, Refit, or comparable design software.
Interpret architectural concepts and transform them into detailed structural blueprints.
Ensure adherence to local building codes, safety regulations, and structural standards. Partner with architects, MEP engineers, and other consultants to create cohesive, integrated designs.
Provide oversight of on-site construction operations, verifying strict compliance with design specifications and established safety protocols.
Collaborate effectively with subcontractors, laborers, and suppliers to facilitate seamless progression through each phase of the project.
Oversee ongoing project development and compile comprehensive daily and weekly site reports to track progress and ensure transparency.
Collaborate with consultants, subcontractors, and trades people to uphold project timelines, address technical challenges, and enhance operational efficiency.
Perform comprehensive site inspections and stringent quality control assessments to confirm structural integrity and adherence to regulatory standards.
Deliver expert technical counsel to field teams and address engineering-related challenges with effective solutions.
Maintain strict adherence to local building codes, HSE standards, and all applicable regulatory requirements at all times.
Technical Proficiency: Mastery of programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++, depending on project requirements; expertise in software development methodologies including Agile and DevOps; familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud; and a strong command of version control systems, particularly Git. Additionally, candidates should possess experience with database management systems, including SQL and NoSQL, as well as proficiency in containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
Familiarity with industry-standard structural design software, including STABS, STAND Pro, SAFE, SAP2000, ProtaStructure, or comparable platforms, is required.
Extensive proficiency in AutoCAD and expertise in structural detailing are essential requirements.
Proficiency in Refit, Civil 3D, or other BIM software will be considered a significant asset.
Demonstrates a comprehensive grasp of engineering codes, industry standards, and relevant construction regulations.
Proficient in developing and analyzing technical drawings, specifications, and engineering reports.
Demonstrated abilities to effectively manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and collaborate with cross-functional teams are essential. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are required to convey complex information clearly. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is essential, along with a solid grasp of algorithms and data structures. Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure, as well as experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines, is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should possess strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and the capacity to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
A minimum of five to seven years of demonstrated expertise in structural design and on-site supervision is required.
Membership or registration with pertinent professional organizations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (CORE) or the Nigerian Society of Engineers (USE), is required.
Proven experience across residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects is required.
