Background

DESCOPE is seeking a skilled consultant to develop and implement a comprehensive Life Skills Training program tailored for adolescents, youth, and other at-risk populations. This program is an integral part of the NHF-funded initiative, “Integrated Life-Saving Nutrition and Protection Assistance for Conflict-Affected Populations in Saga, Conduct, and Gala Gas, Born State.” The program aims to enhance participants’ psychosocial well-being, resilience, decision-making abilities, and socio-economic preparedness within these high-risk, conflict-stricken communities.

This program is tailored to address urgent, documented needs among young people in high-risk environments, with a strong emphasis on cultivating self-awareness, personal safety, emotional resilience, effective interpersonal communication, and long-term preparedness. To ensure lasting change, the appointed consultant must develop and execute a structured, inclusive, and child-focused curriculum delivered through a rigorous 12-week training initiative in Saga Local Government Area, Born State.

To deliver this assignment, the selected candidate will be tasked with executing a range of duties and objectives as outlined in the project scope. This role requires adherence to specific guidelines, ensuring all deliverables meet the established standards of quality and timeliness. The consultant will provide life-skills training to an estimated 100 to 150 adolescents, including both boys and girls, across Beneshiekh and Nammu in Saga LGA. The target group includes a 12% inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Objectives

To achieve the defined goals of the assignment, the following key objectives must be accomplished:

Design a comprehensive 12-session life-skills curriculum specifically tailored for adolescents aged 10 to 17 years, ensuring a structured and engaging format.

Craft and evaluate content tailored to two distinct age groups: children aged 10–13 and teenagers aged 14–17.

Incorporate participatory and child-centered approaches into the development of session frameworks.

Enhance focus on core thematic domains by developing and refining strategies that align with organizational objectives. Prioritize the advancement of key areas through systematic evaluation and targeted improvements to ensure cohesive growth and impact. The consultant is required to endorse and adhere to DESCOPE’s Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct. All concerns or allegations of child abuse must be promptly reported to the designated Safeguarding Focal Person within a 24-hour timeframe.

The consultant must adhere strictly to the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) policy, refraining from any involvement in sexual exploitation or abuse activities. Prior to the initiation of the contract, a completed and signed SEA declaration is mandatory.

All participant information, particularly details regarding protection concerns, must be handled with strict confidentiality and disclosed solely to individuals with a legitimate need to know.
