This role is pivotal in fulfilling missionaries’ call to ‘Invite others to come unto Christ by assisting them in receiving the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.’ Serving as an entry-level support contributor, the position involves training missionaries across diverse settings and subjects. Training topics may include language proficiency, gospel doctrine instruction, *Preach My Gospel* methodologies, and the development of missionary skills. Teachers provide instruction to both junior and senior missionaries before, during, and after their service in the MTC. They adhere to an approved curriculum and may be chosen to engage in pilot programs or special initiatives.
Oversee a variety of critical duties encompassing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of projects to ensure alignment with organizational objectives. Develop and maintain robust processes to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality across all operational functions. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improvement and drive innovative solutions that address key challenges. Monitor performance metrics and key indicators to track progress, ensuring timely adjustments to meet targets. Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement by providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to team members. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and best practices while mitigating risks and maintaining high ethical standards.
In the Training department, the position reports to a trainer or supervisor level individual.
Delivers guidance, instruction, and constructive feedback to missionaries across various training formats, including individual mentoring sessions, small group discussions, large-scale training workshops, and oversight of online Canvas engagement and discussion board activities.
Plans and develops instructional lessons in alignment with the established curriculum, collaborating with a companion teacher as needed to fulfill the missionary’s educational requirements.
Oversees the strategic planning and financial accountability processes for missionary learning initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and standards.
Executes directives and guidance provided by the Teacher Trainer/Supervisor, the Manager of Training, and the Senior Manager of Training.
Attends weekly training sessions and engages in collaborative discussions with co-teachers.
Provides support to local leadership by collaborating with mission and Missionary Department leadership as needed.
Effectively communicates the status, requirements, and advancements of delegated assignments to senior management through concise reports.
Coaches provide guidance and support to missionaries, both during their preparatory phase and throughout their actual lessons, ensuring they are equipped for effective teaching and delivery.
Candidates may be required to evaluate the proficiency of missionaries and teacher applicants in the target language.
May occasionally assume supplementary duties as an Actor, portraying an individual unaffiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ who expresses interest in learning more about its teachings.
May assume supplementary duties as a Training Area Assistant, provided time permits.
Additional temporary responsibilities may be assigned at the Mission Training Center, such as supporting Mission Leadership Seminars.
Qualifications
Required:
Must have served as a missionary and completed a full-time mission.
Proficiency in a designated second language is required for roles focused on language instruction.
Accomplished coaching, facilitation, and training expertise, along with the capability to develop and deliver impactful learning experiences.
A solid grasp of the principles outlined in Preach My Gospel is required, along with the ability to apply its teachings effectively in missionary work.
Accomplished professionals must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal abilities, strong prioritization techniques, unwavering professionalism, and impactful leadership qualities.
A proactive individual with strong interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating effectively with others.
Eager to welcome and apply constructive feedback for continuous improvement and growth.
Proficient knowledge of evidence-based methodologies for language acquisition is essential (for roles focused on language instruction).
Demonstrates exceptional proficiency in both verbal and written communication, along with the ability to manage tasks and priorities efficiently.
Proficiency in both English and an additional language is required, with the ability to convey information effectively through verbal and written communication—essential for language teaching roles. For positions focused on American Sign Language (ASL), mastery of non-verbal communication methods is equally important.
To fulfill the core responsibilities of this position, candidates must meet certain physical demands, including the ability to sit or stand for extended durations and operate monitors and equipment effectively.
