About The Role

The Executive Director of Technical, who reports directly to the Board and the MD/CEO, will hold full accountability for driving strategic growth, ensuring operational excellence, overseeing technical underwriting, and maintaining the financial performance of our entire life insurance portfolio.

You will be responsible for overseeing key operational processes, ensuring efficiency and adherence to established protocols while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance. This role involves managing daily workflows, coordinating team efforts, and implementing strategic initiatives to optimize productivity and achieve organizational objectives. Additionally, you will be tasked with monitoring performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement, and providing actionable insights to senior leadership to drive continuous growth and innovation. Collaboration with cross-functional teams will be essential to align efforts with broader business goals and foster a culture of accountability and excellence.

Drive the life business strategy to optimize market share growth.

Technical Operations entails managing life underwriting, claims administration, and actuarial valuation frameworks to ensure operational excellence and regulatory compliance.

Spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing customer service efficiency through digital innovation and modernized approaches.

Drive strategic growth in sales and distribution by expanding retail presence, forging corporate alliances, and strengthening bancassurance partnerships.

Ensure full compliance with NICOL regulations, corporate governance standards, and all applicable local laws.

Financial Stewardship: Develop and refine investment strategies tailored to life funds while overseeing the department’s profit and loss performance with precision and accountability.

We seek a highly motivated professional with a minimum of five years of experience in a related field, possessing strong analytical and problem-solving skills. A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is essential, along with proficiency in industry-standard software and tools. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities are crucial for collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget, adhering to quality standards and best practices.

A minimum of 15 years of experience in the insurance industry, including at least 5 to 8 years in a senior executive position, is required.

Requires extensive technical knowledge and pertinent professional experience within the field.

A bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Finance, or a related Business field is required, with an MBA or M.Sc. serving as an added benefit.

Professional Certification: Candidates must hold either a Fellow or Associate designation from the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (COIN).

Candidates must fully satisfy all NICOL “Fit and Proper” requirements for board-level appointments.

A strong proficiency in risk management, digital insurance ecosystems, and an in-depth understanding of local market conditions are essential.
