"Ground conservation focused on megafauna neglects other species."
MACON was established in 2016 following a four-day expedition through the breathtaking AFI Mountains Wildlife Sanctuary by its founders. While the sanctuary is a protected area, conservation efforts on the ground were primarily concentrated on megafauna, neglecting other species. This imbalance resulted in a misplaced emphasis on the “respect” for large animals, while smaller mammals—particularly bats—were heavily hunted with little oversight. Recognizing this as an urgent crisis, the concept for MACON was conceived.
