Ref No: WASH310517 Primary Job Responsibilities The Water, Sanitation and Shelter Field Engineer will be working under the leadership and guidance of the Team Lead – WASH/Shelter, accountable for professional technical contribution to water supply and construction project activities within the framework of the Northeast emergency response program ensuring the below objectives:
Objective One: Lead on the overall supervision of water supply, sanitation and shelter project activities.
Objective Two: Coordinate with other emergency teams, internal staff and stakeholders to ensure smooth project implementation
Objective Three: Conduct capacity building trainings to Water Management Committees (WMCs), Community Mobilisers(CMs), Environmental Cleaning Committee(ECC) and other implementing partners.
Specific Job Responsibilities The Water Sanitation and Shelter Engineer’s specific responsibilities will include the following:
Conduct site inspections of water supply projects to ensure that construction is in accordance with design specifications.
Address field design change requests with contractor and team lead
Prepare field reports and maintain a filing system for proper and efficient project documentation.
Evaluate and process contractor progress payment requests.
Evaluate performance of contractors and issue notices of non-compliance when necessary
Ensure that design concerns raised by contractors are raised to the engineering staff
Coordinate with other CRS departments concerning all aspects of project implementation.
Promote safety driven construction practices (safety culture) by regular review of project site safety initiatives and compliance by contractor
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Hydrology or equivalent field experience. Professional license is a plus.
Must have at least 3 years’ experience in QA/QC, water supply project supervision, or construction management, with a balanced awareness of how to effectively manage contractors’ performance.
Thorough knowledge of water supply and construction standards.
Proficient in MS Office applications (AutoCAD, power point, Word, Excel, Outlook Access and ideally MS Project).
Fluency in English and Hausa with good verbal and written communication skills
Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where network may be limited.
Effective inter-personal skills, consensus-building.
Planning and organization skills and analytical approach
Demonstrated experience of integrity and professionalism
