Overview of Role:
CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual with public health experience to conduct data analyses in support of evidence-based decision making within national malaria programs. The volunteer will work on the following deliverables:
Nigeria:
Perform a quantitative analysis of key malaria disease and data quality indicators from the national DHIS2 database. The results of this analysis will be included in an upcoming surveillance assessment planned to take place in summer 2017.
Analyze the data from supportive supervision and surveillance data from private sector drug shops from March 2017 onwards. This analysis will result in a presentation to share the results with Nigeria’s National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP).
Kenya: Develop and revise malaria dashboards using DHIS2 based on feedback from government leadership in two counties where CHAI is leading a surveillance strengthening program
Tanzania: Perform a quantitative analysis of data from supportive supervision visits among informal private sector drug shops, and a quantitative analysis of six months of surveillance data from these drug shops, including data quality. As a deliverable, the volunteer will support creating a presentation to share these findings during a meeting with Tanzania’s National Malaria Control Program (NMCP).
Responsibilities:
Conduct descriptive statistical and epidemiological analyses based on surveillance and supportive supervision data;
Clean, organize and merge available data using Excel or statistical software (STATA, SAS, R);
Assist with disseminating findings through high-quality presentations, reports, and publications; and,
Any other tasks identified.
Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field (or currently enrolled in such program) strongly preferred, or Bachelor’s degree minimum with exceptional experience;
Experience with statistical software (e.g., STATA, SAS, R, or other) to clean, organize and analyze data;
High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet applications;
Demonstrated excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills;
Ability to work independently in unstructured settings and to adapt to new environments;
Enthusiasm for applying research methods to solve global health problems; and,
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Advantages:
Geospatial analysis programming experience (R, ArcGIS and/or other relevant software);
Knowledge of malaria and/or other major global infectious disease problems;
Experience living or working in resource-limited countries;
Experience working remotely with a decentralized team.
