ResponsibilitiesYour work as an editor will involve:
Splice raw film footage together from various sources and shoots, and combine it with other videos, pictures and shoots to create a cohesive story
Evaluate edited footage to make sure it matches the story from the script and meets the narrative agenda of the producer and director of the production
Edit footage into timelines and cut time out of certain shots to create a more impactful story for the audience
Combine visual footage with audio sound effects, dialogue, ambient sound and a musical soundtrack to create more drama in stories
Use computer editing software programmes, video switching devices, digital video effects programmes and other tools to piece together programme components
Ensure all editing cuts, splices, changes and additions appear seamless and natural and help the story flow more effectively in the finished product
Create sound effects by recording specific audio clips or choose audio effects from a database of sounds to include in the final production
Discuss project specifications, timeline, narrative structure, story goals and more with the Media Administrator and other relevant personnel
Manipulate and edit footages in a way that is invisible to the audience
Trim footage segments and put together the sequence of various productions
Digitally cut files to put together the sequence of the footages and deciding what is usable;
Reorder and fine-tune the content to ensure the logical sequencing and smooth running of the video.
Create a ‘rough cut’ (or assembly edit) of programmes and determine the exact cut for the next and final stages;
Input music, dialogues, graphics and effects on production
Consult with stakeholders from pre-production, production to post-production process
Continuously discover and implement new editing technologies and industry’s best practices to maximize efficiency.
Assemble all raw footage, with camera shots either recorded or transferred onto video tape in preparation for inputting into the computer;
Produce various montage as the need arises
Carry out online editing duties which includes finalising technical aspects such as correcting faulty footage, grading and colouring and adding special effects.
Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in Film, Video Production, Communications or any related field
A minimum of 2 years relevant work experience in a similar position
