Responsibilities
The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University, an ex-officio member of the Governing Council, and Chairman of the Senate. The Vice-Chancellor’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Providing strategic leadership and vision for the University
Advising the Governing Council on matters affecting the finance and administration of the institution
Overseeing the efficient management of the University and ensuring compliance with laws, statutes, and regulations
Maintaining peac order, and discipline within the University community
Regulating student admissions in accordance with Senate-approved guidelines and statutory provisions.
Qualifications and Requirements
Academic Excellence:
Possess a PhD. from a recognized university
Hold the rank of Professor for at least five (5) years
Have a distinguished academic record with significant contributions to research and scholarship.
Leadership and Administrative Experience:
Demonstrate proven experience in managing human and material resources effectively
Exhibit strong leadership skills with the ability to drive academic and administrative excellence.
Integrity and Character:
Be a person of impeccable integrity, sound moral character, and unquestionable honesty
Be physically and mentally fit, with the capacity to withstand the demands of the office.
National and International Recognition:
Be widely respected within the academic community, both nationally and internationally
Possess a track record of inspiring respect, loyalty and confidence among staff and students.
Visionary Leadership:
Have a clear vision for the continuous development of the University, even in the face of resource constraints
Be committed to upholding and advancing the University’s mission, vision, and core values.
Merit and Objectivity:
Be a person who operates strictly on merit, demonstrating independence of thought and resistance to undue pressure.
Technological Proficiency:
Be proficient in the use of ICT for modern university administration and academic engagement.
Age Requirement:
Must not be more than 65 years old at the time of assumption of duty.
Condition of Service
The Vice-Chancellor shall serve a single term of five (5) years. The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable Nigerian Federal Universities and/or as approved by the Governing Council from time to time.
