Team Leader – Nigeria DFID Education Program

Job Description

The purpose of this project is to implement Opportunities for Adolescent Girls to Thrive (OAGT), a project aimed at supporting the hardest to reach adolescent girls between the ages of 10 and 19 in gaining literacy, numeracy and other skills relevant for life and work in targeted communities in Sokoto, Nigeria.

Responsibilities

The Team Leader (TL) provides overall technical and administrative leadership and expertise for the Project and serves as the primary liaison with the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID)/Nigeria on Opportunities for Adolescent Girls to Thrive on management and technical matters.
S/he will be responsible for the overall management and implementation of the Project and report directly to the designated DFID representative. S/he will supervise activity implementation and ensure the activity meets agreed to goals, outcomes, benchmarks, and reporting requirements. The TL will take a leadership role in coordination among DFID and key stakeholders.
The TL must have demonstrated ability to work in complex, unstable environments, and manage diverse teams to deliver impact within agreed timelines.

Qualifications

Education: A Master’s Degree (or foreign equivalent) in education, public / business administration, international relations, other social sciences, or relevant field from an accredited university.

Skills and Experience:

At least seven (7) years of experience in technical experience working with programs that are of a similar scope and scale to this activity is required (at least four of these years must be in a management/leadership position);
Experience in the education sector in Africa, preferably in Nigeria, with ample experience in girls’ education, non-formal education, literacy and numeracy, and project implementation; policy dialogue, strategic planning and implementation and entrepreneurship and life skills will provide an added advantage;
Experience in crisis or conflict-affected environments is highly preferable.

Language:

Professionally proficient and fluent in written and spoken English.
