Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, supervising, and inspecting mechanical systems across various project sites.
The role requires strong expertise in design consultancy, site inspections, and managing MEP contractors to ensure projects are completed according to approved drawings and material specifications.
Strong project management skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities
Design and Drafting:

Develop detailed designs and drafts for mechanical systems, including water supply (hot and cold), wastewater systems, sewage treatment, rainwater drainage, HVAC, and more.
Prepare comprehensive technical documentation such as tender documents, feasibility studies, and engineering reports.
Incorporate power distribution, grounding, lighting, control systems, and equipment selection into design projects.
Perform engineering calculations and analysis for mechanical systems.

Project Management and Site Supervision:

Conduct site inspections to ensure work is executed according to approved shop drawings and material submittals.
Communicate work methodologies to the team to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Report daily progress to the General Manager and plan activities for subsequent working days.
Monitor material inventory on-site and prepare requirements for upcoming project phases.
Evaluate contractors’ mechanical engineering and construction work, addressing non-conformities with recommendations for resolution.
Supervise all testing, commissioning, and handover processes for mechanical systems.

Consultancy and Client Engagement:

Build and maintain strong client relationships and networks.
Represent the firm at industry seminars, conferences, and other professional events.
Contribute to the company’s growth by upholding professional standards and innovating in mechanical design practices.

Team Collaboration and Leadership:

Guide and mentor less experienced team members to enhance their technical skills.

Skills and Competencies:

Strong ability to plan, prioritize, and execute tasks in an organized and efficient manner.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, HAP, and Design Builder software.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills and familiarity with internet-based tools.

Qualifications and Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (minimum).
Certification: NSE and COREN Certified Engineer (required).
Experience: 20 years of experience in design consultancy within Nigeria, preferably with exposure to regulatory authorities.
Languages: Fluent in English.
