Job Summary
The Senior IT Network Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and security of the organization’s IT network infrastructure. This role focuses on hardware-related aspects, including servers, routers, switches, firewalls, storage systems, and other critical network components. The incumbent ensures high availability, performance, and reliability of all IT hardware systems while troubleshooting and optimizing network operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesNetwork Hardware Management
Install, configure, and maintain network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, modems, and access points.
Perform routine inspections, upgrades, and firmware updates on all network hardware to ensure optimal performance.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware failures or performance issues.
Implement redundancy measures and failover configurations for high availability.
Conduct capacity planning and recommend hardware upgrades or replacements.
Server & Storage Administration
Oversee physical and virtual server infrastructure, ensuring optimal configuration and uptime.
Manage storage solutions, including SAN (Storage Area Network) and NAS (Network Attached Storage) systems.
Monitor system performance, conduct backups, and implement disaster recovery strategies.
Ensure compliance with data security policies and access control measures.
Hardware Security & Compliance
Implement hardware security protocols, including firewalls, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and endpoint security solutions.
Perform vulnerability assessments and patch management on network hardware.
Enforce compliance with industry security standards (ISO 27001, NIST, etc.).
Maintain asset inventory and documentation for all hardware devices.
Infrastructure Design & Optimization
Evaluate, design, and implement scalable network architectures to support business needs.
Optimize network performance by analyzing traffic patterns and resolving bottlenecks.
Collaborate with vendors to procure, install, and configure new hardware.
Maintain structured cabling systems and ensure proper documentation.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
Provide advanced troubleshooting for network-related hardware issues.
Escalate critical problems and coordinate with vendors or service providers as needed.
Create technical documentation and SOPs for troubleshooting common hardware issues.
Train junior IT staff on best practices for hardware maintenance.
Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
Develop and implement disaster recovery plans for hardware failures.
Conduct routine backup testing and restore procedures.
Establish failover mechanisms and redundancies for critical hardware infrastructure.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in network and hardware administration.
Strong knowledge of enterprise networking hardware (Cisco, Juniper, HP, etc.).
Experience with Windows Server, Linux, and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
Proficiency in configuring and managing firewalls, load balancers, and wireless controllers.
Familiarity with cloud networking and hybrid infrastructure solutions.
Relevant certifications preferred (CCNP, CompTIA Network+, Cisco Certified Specialist, etc.).
Key Skills
Expertise in networking hardware installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Strong knowledge of routing protocols and VLAN management.
Experience with network monitoring tools.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
