JOB SUMMARY

This role will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and strategic guidance to clients in resolving disputes and navigating tax-related matters. Your in-depth knowledge of dispute-resolution techniques, tax laws, and regulations will be instrumental in delivering exceptional client service and achieving favorable outcomes. You will work closely with partners, senior associates, and clients to handle disputes and tax-related matters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership (Supervisory): Lead and supervise junior associates, delegating tasks and ensuring the quality and accuracy of their work products.
Client Engagement: Collaborate with partners and senior team members to manage a portfolio of clients, including corporations, individuals, and organizations, requiring dispute resolution and tax-related assistance. Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to identify key issues, risks, and opportunities for clients. Prepare and present legal opinions, memoranda, and reports, providing clear and practical advice to clients regarding dispute resolution strategies, tax planning, and compliance matters.
Client Relationship Management: Cultivate strong relationships with clients, providing exceptional service and maintaining regular communication to understand their evolving needs and concerns. Collaborate with partners and senior team members to identify opportunities for business development and expand client engagements. Participate in client meetings, presentations, and business development initiatives.
Dispute Resolution: Handle a diverse range of dispute resolution cases, including litigation, arbitration, mediation, and negotiation. Draft and review pleadings, motions, and other legal documents. Conduct legal research, analyze case law, and develop strong legal arguments to support clients’ positions. Represent clients in court proceedings, hearings, and alternative dispute resolution forums. Collaborate with external counsel, experts, and other stakeholders to build compelling cases and ensure effective representation.
Tax Advisory and Compliance: Advise clients on tax-related matters, including tax planning, structuring transactions, and compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations. Conduct tax research, analyze tax implications, and provide recommendations to optimize clients’ tax positions. Assist in preparing and reviewing tax returns, tax provisions, and related documentation. Support clients in tax audits, appeals, and negotiations with tax authorities. Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations, communicating relevant updates to clients and internal stakeholders.
Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth legal research on dispute resolution and tax-related issues. Analyze statutes, regulations, and case laws to provide accurate and up-to-date advice to clients. Prepare legal memoranda, opinions, and briefs summarizing research findings.
Legal Strategy and Advisory: Provide expert legal advice and guidance to clients on legal issues within the DRT space.
Transactions Management: Manage and guide junior associates in client meetings and calls, ensuring accurate documentation and follow-up on action items.
Project Management: Supervise significant legal matters, ensuring that all deliverables are of high quality and deadlines are met. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, both internally and externally, to execute projects and transactions and ensure project budgets and timelines are aligned.
Business Development: Assisting partners in business development efforts, including attending industry events, managing client relationships, and contributing to the preparation of proposals.
Drafting and Review: Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, contracts, and agreements, ensuring optimal terms and compliance with applicable laws.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including other practice groups and departments within the firm, to deliver comprehensive solutions to clients. Mentor and supervise junior associates, providing guidance, feedback, and support in their professional development. Contribute to the knowledge-sharing and professional development initiatives of the firm.
Industry Knowledge: Stay updated on evolving laws, regulations, and industry trends within the DRT space, and provide guidance and training to colleagues and clients accordingly.
Thought Leadership: Be actively involved with publishing articles, delivering presentations, and participating in conferences to enhance the firm’s reputation and position as a thought leader in the field.
Risk Management and Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards related to DRT activities.
Fulfilling Other Responsibilities as Delegated or Assigned: Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed to meet the evolving needs of the organization.

QUALIFICATION / SKILLS REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB or JD) from an accredited institution and active bar membership. Advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
Admitted to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
Minimum of 7 years post-call experience practicing law, with substantial experience in dispute, resolution, and tax law.
Strong knowledge of local and international dispute resolution procedures and tax regulations.
Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to clients and colleagues.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
Proficiency in legal research tools and technology.
Proven track record of leading and mentoring junior associates, providing guidance and fostering professional growth.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a team and maintain strong client relationships.
Demonstrated willingness to stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and advancements in the DRT space.
Business development experience and a network within the DRT space is highly desirable.
