Background
Critical hotspots like the Niger Delta, North East, Southern Kaduna and other conflict related regions are reshaping Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape. Nextier has been providing evidence-based research and policy analysis, strategy and advisory services in peace building initiatives, advocacy, development planning and capacity development to the agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria responsible for addressing these challenges.
Nextier seeks to recruit a Security, Peace and Development Adviser who will serve as the subject matter specialist and responsible for growing and expanding Nextier’s portfolio and core competencies in these areas. He/she will work with a team supported by a Senior Adviser and Policy Analysts.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Security Peace and Development Adviser will:
Provide strategic and analytical support on conflict analysis, security, peace and development issues
Drive Nextier’s business development and partnerships particularly in handling relationships with development partners and in seeking consulting engagement
Lead public policy dialogue initiatives in security peace and development
Pursue acquisitions of programme opportunities and strengthen capacity for research and publications
Provide strategic advisory input to Nextier leadership regarding emerging opportunities in the area of conflict, security, peace and development

Ability to lead strategic planning, results-based management and reporting
Possesses specialist knowledge in the area of conflict prevention, social cohesion, governance reform or related areas, as well as in-depth and practical knowledge of inter-disciplinary development issues
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relationships with internal and external parties in a multicultural environment
Ability to advise and oversee formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of projects and programmes
Proven ability to incorporate into his/her work relevant international practices

The Security Peace and Development Adviser will:
Lead strategic planning, resource-based management and reporting
Pursue innovative approaches and translates them into viable programme interventions
Mobilise resources and advise on cost recovery on consulting engagements
Monitors and evaluates development projects and programmes

Required Skills and Experience The ideal candidate will have:
A Masters Degree in the Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Science (with focus on conflict and peace studies), development studies, or other related domain
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional international experience in the fields of conflict prevention, peace-building and conflict- sensitive development
Proven experience in advising senior management, interacting with senior government officials and donors
Demonstrated experience in providing project and programme support with a conflict sensitive perspective
Experience in facilitating peace processes and dialogue activities
Experience working in an international organization, preferably and familiarity with political analysis, as well as crisis prevention and recovery issues
Excellent knowledge of and extensive experience in Africa. Experience in conflict prevention initiatives will be an added advantage
Experience and specialist knowledge in building national capacities in peace processes and national reconciliation
