Sea learn is in search of an accomplished and seasoned Senior Lecturer in Maritime Studies to enhance our academic team. The preferred candidate will exhibit exceptional academic qualifications coupled with substantial industry expertise. This position encompasses responsibilities such as instructing students, designing and refining curricula, as well as developing and executing engaging learning experiences.
Through simulation sessions and hands-on training, as well as conducting research, providing mentorship, and supporting the institution’s academic and professional advancement, this role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities.
Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of duties encompassing strategic planning, operational management, and team leadership to ensure organizational efficiency and goal attainment. Collaborate with cross-functional departments to align initiatives with company objectives, fostering a cohesive and productive work environment. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and performance metrics to enhance productivity, quality, and compliance with industry standards. Monitor key performance indicators to identify trends, address challenges, and drive continuous improvement across all business functions. Serve as a primary liaison with stakeholders, providing clear communication, reporting on progress, and ensuring alignment with executive expectations. Lead initiatives to optimize resource allocation, mitigate risks, and capitalize on opportunities for growth and innovation within the organization.
Craft, assess, and revise curricula to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, such as those established by the IMO/STCW, as well as evolving industry standards.
Develop comprehensive course materials comprising presentations, simulation exercises, and practical mockups, with a strong emphasis on educational pedagogy, to ensure the highest quality delivery of knowledge and skills to learners.
You will be responsible for conducting engaging and informative lectures, seminars, and hands-on training sessions covering key subjects including navigation and marine engineering, maritime safety, cargo operations and repair and maintenance, commercial operations, environmental protection, and related fields.
Monitor and evaluate courseware created by junior faculty, offering constructive feedback and guidance to facilitate their professional growth.
Oversee the development and evaluation of student projects, dissertations, and assessments to ensure academic standards and learning objectives are met.
Conduct research and compose articles for distinguished journals and publications within the maritime sector. Additionally, deliver presentations at prestigious seminars and conferences to bolster Sea Learn’s professional standing.
Offer academic mentorship and guidance to junior faculty members and students to support their professional and educational development.
Engage actively in various internal committees, contribute to quality assurance initiatives, and support accreditation-related activities.
Work alongside maritime industry stakeholders and regulatory bodies to improve the alignment of training programs with industry needs and enhance graduates’ employability.
Assist in designing and implementing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) initiatives to ensure their successful execution.
Seeking a candidate with a strong academic background and relevant professional experience in the specified field. The ideal applicant must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, complemented by at least three years of hands-on experience in a comparable role. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, along with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Additional requirements include effective communication abilities, a collaborative mindset, and a proven track record of delivering results in fast-paced environments.
Professional certification such as a Master Class I or Marine Engineer Officer Class I Certificate of Competency (e.g., Master Mariner, Chief Engineer) issued by a respected Flag administration is required.
A master’s degree or PhD in fields such as Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, or a closely related discipline is highly preferred.
Holds a certification from an Administration-approved Train the Trainer program, ensuring compliance with established standards. This credential validates the ability to effectively instruct and mentor others in training methodologies. The role requires a solid understanding of adult learning principles and the capacity to develop and deliver engaging educational content. Additionally, the individual must demonstrate proficiency in assessing trainee performance and providing constructive feedback to enhance learning outcomes.
The Simulator Trainer program encompasses both the Simulator Trainer course and the Assessment, Examination, and Certification of Seafarers course, ensuring comprehensive training and credentialing for maritime professionals.
With a minimum of two decades of experience in maritime education, seagoing operations, or shore-based maritime industry positions, candidates should possess extensive hands-on and instructional expertise.
Proficiency in international maritime regulations, particularly STCW, is essential, along with a proven track record in curriculum development and teaching at the higher education level.
Ideally, the candidate will have completed an instructional design training program.
Proficiency in academic research or industry-driven projects is highly beneficial.
