Quality Assurance Manager

Job SpecificationTo manage the activities of the Quality Assurance department to meet both regulatory standards and company requirements.ResponsibilityDEPARTMENTAL PLANNING /ORGANISATION – Preparing budget, tracks the annual departmental budget, controls departmental expenses, delegates workload and responsibilities in the department, provide motivation to HSRM for what lab equipment to purchase given limited resources and the need to comply to Regulatory requirements. Determining methods to resolve any issues that ariseQUALITY ASSURANCE FUNCTION – Compliance to the company standards, regulatory and principal requirements, implement Quality management system with all processes and procedures well documented and complied, ensure customer complaints are investigated and corrective actions implemented timely, ability to keep track of product distribution for whole organization, ensure quality of water meets food safety regulations in line with legislation to avoid sanctions /  fines for discharging untreated sewer into municipal drains. Arranges for both internal and external plant audits, maintains a documentation system based on specifications, manufacturing formulae and processing and packaging instructions, procedures and records covering the various manufacturing operations that they perform, ensures all test methods are documented and validated, approves new materials and suppliers and maintain an approved supplier’s list, investigates, records and reviews customer appropriate complaints and ensures that measures are taken to prevent reoccurrence,maintains an effective system for recalling promptly at any point within the distribution network.QUALITY CONTROL FUNCTION – Ensures all products manufactured by the factory comply with Company’s quality and regulatory standards, ensures that records of manufacture including distribution, which enable the complete history of a batch to be traced, are retained in a comprehensible and accessible form,  decides if a product should be released or not based on the test results and batch records outgoing, ensures that records of manufacture including distribution, which enable the complete history of a batch to be traced, are retained in a comprehensible and accessible formGOOD MANUFACTURING PRACTICE – Ensures that all key production processes are validated and any changes to these processes are validated, ensures that all key equipment is calibrated & fit,ensures that all products recalled for destruction or by reasons of obsolescence or being sub-standard are destroyed in accordance with the law and regulations,reviews any intended formula changes in conjunction with production and New Business Development Manager, evaluates systems and processes in order to make quality improvementsSTAFFING AND SUPERVISION – Recruits suitably qualified staff timeously as need arise, motivates staff by giving them timely and relevant feedback of management plans and decisions, counsels staff and reviews training needs and any issues that may affect their performance, distributes any relevant company policies i.e. disciplinary code of conduct etc., develop successions plans and drive multi-skilling of staff by exposing them to acting on behalf of superiors and peers, Identifies training needs with production lines and advises Managers.PROJECTS – Ensures sound communication with other departmental staff to enable the company to have a GMP conscious approach so as to eliminate product contamination through substandard practices, reviews process improvements through interaction with other departments, provides support for the production and marketing departments by ensuring speedy releases of product.RequirementsMinimum qualifications required by the position:

B.Sc. Chemistry/Bio Chemistry, B.Sc. Food science & Tech. and any relevant Course
Quality Assurance qualification / experience of implementation – ISO, FSMS
MBA / MSC an added advantage
The suitable candidate must be knowledgeable in all food safety standards that are customary within the food industry and mandated by government regulations, such as the Food Safety Management System, preferable with experience in delivering excellent food safety and quality management systems and obtaining ISO accreditation.

Minimum experience required by the position:10 years in a QA/Production Environment5 years at a senior level
