Responsibilities
Seed Warehouse Management:
Coordinate communications, exchange of quality information and provide technical services and support to seed storage and warehousing
Monitor the temperature and humidity of the warehouse
Ensure timely fumigation of the seeds in the warehouse with strict adherence to the fumigation standards
Run a daily calibration check for all weight scales that is in use to determine accurate weight for packaging. Record in the weight scale calibration sheet
Observe for rodent control, pest control, storage condition and report weekly to the TL
Keep good sanitation, ensure correct removal and deposal of junks e.g used sacks & empty chemical drums from storage area to keep it tidy
Seed Inflow and Outflow:
Carry out the sampling of all seed delivered into the warehouse to test for purity analysis and moisture content, for returned seed, once delivered should be set aside as “bad seed” and run germination and emergence test. Once validity of seed is determined, the result is to be shared with the TL
Ensure all seeds going out of the warehouse has been tested for germination and physical purity and give certification to seeds above the quality threshold
Seed Testing:
Carry out monthly germination test of all seeds in the warehouse and share report with the TL
Conduct Physical Purity Test to check for broken, diseased, embryo damaged Seed (defects)
Conduct vigour test for all parent seed & seed of 2 years and over
Conduct germination for samples of all seed lots (both raw and processed seed)
Processing and Packaging:
Inspect the processing plant before the commencement of processing operations by asking the PO to run the plant and allow leftover seed to be flushed out, check to confirm there is no hidden kernel, write a report to certify that the plant is clean for processing. This should be done when changing variety
At completion of processing(treatment) for each lot before packaging, collect sample to assess purity analysis and MC, if below standard of 99% PP, the PO should be informed to re-clean until the standard is achieved. Once standards are met, collect samples for final test in the lab-PP, MC, germination and emergence test.
Assess packaging materials and ensure there is no error in the packs to avoid admixtures in the market
Reporting:
Immediate reporting on MC and PP for raw seed within 24 hrs after delivery
Provide Seed germination/Emergence status – 7 days after delivery/sampling
Weekly report on all the activities for the week
Monthly germination test report
Report issues that arise in the course of duties.
Requirement
Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree / HND qualification with 0 – 2 years work experience.
