Project Manager-Sustainability Operations

Role Overview

As a Sustainability Operations Project Manager, you will lead and coordinate strategic projects focused on farmer livelihoods across various commodity value chains (rice, cotton, sesame, grains, etc.) and geographies. These projects will address key areas such as:

Improving farmer incomes
Upholding human rights
Empowering women
Reducing post-harvest loss

Your work will involve the full project lifecycle, from design and implementation to monitoring and evaluation. Projects may include research, data collection, risk monitoring, field-level implementation, and partnership development. You will also be responsible for scaling existing successful projects.

You will be a subject matter expert on farmer livelihoods and production systems, engaging and influencing internal and external stakeholders. A key part of your role will be building capacity within the company through training and knowledge sharing.

This role is part of an international team, requiring a high degree of autonomy, self-motivation, and excellent virtual communication skills. Travel (domestic and international) is estimated at 15-20%.

Responsibilities

Farmer Livelihoods Expertise: Serve as the go-to expert on farmer livelihoods, including living income, post-harvest loss, and human rights. Identify opportunities, manage research, monitor trends, and contribute to internal/external communications (e.g., presentations, annual report).
Sustainability Strategy Contribution: Refine our approach to improving farmer net incomes (through improved production of our crops and diversification of income sources). Develop and implement projects, create new approaches, and build necessary internal/external alliances, guidance materials, and tools.
Project Management: Lead project identification, development, and implementation, ensuring effective stakeholder coordination and adherence to timelines/budgets. Manage an annual budget for farmer income and post-harvest loss reduction initiatives.
Partnership Building: Represent the company in multi-stakeholder platforms and manage relevant partnerships related to food security and nutrition. Collaborate with the Partnership & Engagement Manager and BUs on concept notes and funding proposals.
Capacity Building: Develop expertise within BUs, deliver Training-of-Trainers sessions, conduct trainings, and create learning materials (e.g., case studies, training modules).
Team Contribution: Contribute to thought leadership on farmer livelihoods and sustainability, develop/update sustainability policies and tools, and design/establish new sustainability initiatives (including digital tools) related to food security, nutrition, and health (e.g., living income gap strategies, women’s empowerment initiatives).

Strong analytical skills to develop evidence-based insights and recommendations from large datasets.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and training delivery.
Experience in agribusiness models and success factors is highly desirable.
Willingness to travel to remote areas and adapt to challenging conditions.
University degree in agronomy, economics, international development, or a related field.
4-6 years of relevant professional experience.
Fluency in English (required); French (highly desired).
