Job Description
Oversees, plans, and directs the activities of a modern printing plant; prepares or directs the preparation of cost estimates; establishes and coordinates methods and procedures for economical and efficient production.
Confers with institution and departmental representatives on materials to be printed and the priorities and time limits involved, and prepares or directs the preparation of schedules accordingly.
Supervises directly or through subordinate supervisors a large staff of employees engaged in pre-press preparation, pressroom, and binding operations; plans and directs formal and on-the-job training programs.
Determines or assists in determining the kind, amount, and location of equipment; requisitions supplies, repair parts, and replacement or additional equipment; directs the cleaning, maintenance, and minor repair of equipment.
Plans, develops and writes specifications for a wide range of printing and binding jobs to be contracted to commercial printing vendors as needed.
Directs the preparation and maintenance of necessary records and reports.
Prioritizes workflow, communicates with production staff daily, and supervises the production process
Schedules production and installations daily
Performs quality assurance measures pre- and post-construction
Communicates with other employees to ensure production is completed on time and with high quality
Manages the inventory and supplies purchasing
Supervises basic installations and completes more advanced installations
Assesses and maintains current technology and works with principals to investigate and potentially introduce new technology, software and equipment to staff
Trains employees on equipment, tools, and efficiency-building methods
Serves as a backup for overflow production needs
Ensures that all necessary paperwork is completed
Performs other duties as needed, such as answering the phone, helping at the front counter, consulting with customers, and sight visits, etc.
Expertise operating large format digital printers and equipment to include flatbed, roll to roll, vinyl plotters and laminators
Proven ability using Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop
Experience using RIP programs such as Versaworks
Knowledgeable regarding sign substrates and vinyl films
Vinyl graphic installation experience
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proficient computer and internet skills
Able to stand for long periods of time.
