Where you fit in?
You will provide discipline-specific expertise and skills required for world-class delivery of Asset Engineering, Brownfield/Flagship Projects in Nigerian, spanning complete E&P lifecycle: concept selection, define/FEED, project execution, commissioning / start-up, and support to operations.
Focus on system integrity and functionality from a Process and Flow Assurance engineering standpoint. Process and Flow Assurance responsibility includes all aspects related to FPSOs, wells, risers, flow line & pipeline systems from the reservoir to market.
Provide fit-for-purpose process design solutions to a range of process issues, input to new projects from studies to execution and commissioning, optimization of changes in existing process facilities.
Interfaces with production operations and the project community, the job expectations will include interface with petroleum engineering, well engineering, maintenance and integrity team, development engineering, subsea and flowline/risers’ systems.
Provide commissioning/start-up support and Technical Authority assistance to producing operations as well as project execution support for development upgrades.
Optimizing overall system availability within the constraints of the flowing system thermal and hydraulic performance while managing the risk of plugging.
Technical Authority for the interpretation of engineering standards and for the provision of specialist advice in own discipline, seeking assistance from other the relevant Technical Authorities in other discipline, as appropriate.
You will supervise and coach assigned young Process and Flow Assurance engineers, Industrial Trainees, and Interns to attain expected levels of competence.
What is the role?
As a Principal Process and Flow Assurance Engineer, you will report to the Head, Process and Flow Assurance Engineering Deepwater Nigeria. You will provide Process and Flow Assurance Engineering expertise and assurance support with Technical Authority level accountabilities.
The Deepwater business is demanding, involving many critical service applications. The role requires people who are results-driven, enthusiastic, energetic, dedicated, flexible and willing to work in a team-based environment. Overall system availability of present and future assets is critically dependent on a successful floating systems and subsea system performance. This performance will only be achieved via a successful floating systems and subsea systems engineering support.
Accountabilities:
You must be able to work in a matrix organization- in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-racial group in a developing country with its unique qualities; supporting operations as well as brownfield/flagship projects simultaneously; and anticipating and resolving day-to-day operations and project maturation issues
There is an opportunity to work with and contribute to a diverse skill pool of professionals from various disciplines by applying in-depth technical expertise (within Process Engineering) and best practices required for the steady state and transient/dynamics simulations studies, design, installation, commissioning, and operations support for delivery of projects
You will support offshore operating asset and projects in the area of process and flow assurance and multiphase flow modeling and simulation for steady state, dynamics and transient applications (e.g. PVTsim, Hysys, Unisim, OLGA, Pipesim, etc.) for fluid transport in wells and surface systems, understand underlying fluid and thermal dynamics, heat-mass-transfer and good knowledge in assessing and selecting system concepts, identifying and implementing operating strategies for management and control of all flow assurance issues during normal production, shut-in, restart, blockage remediation. Interfacing with other disciplines (e.g., wells, production chemistry, production technology, operations, etc.)
Responsible for integration, provide leadership, and delivery of all process and flow assurance-related activities to the Project teams of supported projects
Responsible for leading process engineering studies, including design / feasibility studies
Provide design, commissioning/start-up support and Technical Authority assurance to flagship projects and producing operations and project execution support for Brown Field upgrades. Provide fit-for-purpose solutions to a range of flow assurance issues, input to new projects from studies to execution and commissioning and guardian of the defined operating envelopes of flowlines etc.
Responsible for the flow assurance engineering aspects of technical integrity and reliability of offshore facilities, working with other teams to produce designs and implementation plans that keep the FPSO systems optimally in operation; the subsea systems, and pipelines open to flow; from the reservoir to market. Challenge & influence system operations, as well as directly influence the detailed work to be performed during the FEED and execution stages of future and existing projects and expansions. Champion the utilization of Shell global work processes (HSE management process, MOC process, etc.)
What we need from you
To practice as an engineer in Nigeria, you would need to be COREN registered or registrable. To deliver on the role, you will need to have a learner’s mindset and possess strong interpersonal skills i.e., able to influence and develop relationships across various disciplines, functions, and cultures. You would also need to be comfortable in leading people, coaching, and motivating less experienced colleagues and delivering through others. You would be required to work in line with company guidelines on (i) HSSE and (ii) Ethics & Compliance.
Furthermore, you will need the following in order to be successful on the role:
Must have legal authorization to work on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
You must have a minimum of MSc. in any engineering disciplines (and PhD as added advantage) preferably in Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering
Minimum 15 years post-graduation experience working in upstream E&P with at least 10 years directly related to Process and Flow Assurance Engineering in both brownfield/flagship projects
You are expected to demonstrate technical competence level in Process and Flow Assurance both for brownfield and flagship projects in upstream E&P
Expected to demonstrate minimum knowledge competence level on other disciplines outside own primary discipline
Drive and deliver business value in engineering designs. Deliver commercial value (includes value/cost trade-offs), use data/information (benchmark & metrices), diagnostic skills, balance between costs and risks, drive value propositions, network broadly, leverage relationships (existing/build new), manage risk and demonstrate business acumen
Champion cross-discipline and functional Integration (e.g. Systems Integration), interdependencies and opportunities between engineering disciplines and other functions to ensure integrity and improvements at systems level e.g. how process conditions impact integrity, reliability, and equipment life. Ability to define and deliver assurance and governance across own discipline team
Expert and Coach in the use of Process & Flow Assurance Tools for Subsea and FPSO Topside process studies, e.g. Fluid Characterization: PVTsim, Multiflash, Steady State simulation tools; Pipesim, Pipehase, Hysys/Unisim, Flarenet/Flaresim, Transient/Dynamics simulation tools: Olga, COMPAS
Sound understanding of Process Safety and risk assessment methodology.
Excellent understanding and application of relevant industry codes and standards, Shell Design Standards, specifications, and design processes applicable to deep water environment
Work proactively with the Project Managers to meet project targets and achieve TQ project delivery
Network within discipline locally and globally to ensure lateral learning and the application of best practices
Contributed to global community of practice and have least two technical papers presented at international conferences
High personal energy level and a proven track record in achieving stretching personal and business goals
