Job Description

A photo editor isresponsible for reviewing, selecting, and manipulating digital images to enhance their aesthetic quality, ensuring they are suitable for publication or other use by adjusting color, cropping, retouching, and compositing them according to project needs, often collaborating closely with photographers and art directors to achieve the desired visual outcome.

Key Responsibilities
Image selection:

Evaluating a collection of photographs to choose the best ones for a specific project based on composition, lighting, and subject matter.

Color correction:

Adjusting color balance and saturation to achieve the desired look and feel of an image.

Cropping and resizing:

Trimming images to improve framing and adjusting dimensions to fit publication requirements.

Retouching:

Making subtle adjustments to skin tone, blemishes, or background details to refine an image.

Compositing:

Combining multiple images to create a new scene or add elements not present in the original photograph

Image manipulation:

Applying various editing techniques like sharpening, noise reduction, and tonal adjustments

File preparation:

Saving images in the correct format and resolution for intended use

Collaboration with photographers:

Providing feedback to photographers on image capture and working with them to achieve the desired visual style

Staying updated with industry trends:

Keeping abreast of new photo editing software and techniques

Requirements
Required skills for a photo editor:

Proficient in photo editing software:Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and other industry-standard tools
Strong understanding of photography principles:Composition, lighting, color theory
Creative eye:Ability to identify and enhance the visual appeal of an image
Attention to detail:Ensuring images are polished and free from errors
Technical skills:File management, image optimization for different platforms
Communication skills:Collaborating effectively with designers, photographers, and other stakeholders.
